Fethiye, Turkey
Uh oh.
Contrarian post alert?
Not really.
The major media largely uses:
- fear
- division
- separation
- scarcity
to drill home the point.
However, in all fairness, major media also softens their stance through:
- special interest fluff pieces
- lifestyle news
- the last few moments of broadcasts or stories a bit buried under the top headlines
Please do not follow their general lead to a “T” because the karmic crap fest that follows is akin to bathing in, drinking from and surviving on a sewer system. If you try to predominantly create division then division you shall have.
But as wise minds profess: everyone has a part to play in the world.
Beyond that talisman of wisdom, major media content creation and marketing tactics reflect your fears, struggles and failures back to you in terms of what you could do a teeny weeny bit more of to succeed.
What you do from an abundant energy usually needs serious amplification to coast beyond your traffic and income struggles. Major media mastered serious amplification. Sorry to say, few bloggers ever do.
For example, most bloggers harbor deep fears regarding self-promotion of….let’s say….eBooks (note; by Ryan Biddulph). Said fears seemingly goad bloggers to never promote old blog posts, business channels or even new blog posts in rare cases.
Meanwhile, major media shoves news down your throat in such violent, repetitive fashion that your head pops off of your neck in Pez dispenser fashion. The shoving is brutal but do you think people who run the news deeply fear self-promotion? See what I mean? You can learn something from their boldness and take a smidge for yourself.
Egg Head Politician
An egg-head dingbat met me the split second I opened my YouTube account here in Turkey a few moments ago. Old Eggie lent me the idea for this blog post. He was balding with the classic, wispy Gollum hair fringing the sides and back of his egg….head.
He is a politician. He spoke trash of the opponent. Shocking.
I have not:
- voted in 30 years
- followed the news in 25 years
- been on US soil for 2 months
- spent 1 full year on US soil for 13 years
Yet the machine blitzes marketing messages so aggressively that this US citizen sitting in Turkey gets blasted a political commercial via YouTube. Thin is a world of bloggers who seem terrified to hint of offering products (such as blogging courses by Ryan Biddulph), services or even their latest blog post.
Major media outlets operate identically to the individual who runs Yolk Head’s campaign. Target but also blast the message to a broad range of humans again, again, again, again and again with no fear of wasting the marketing or repeat-promoting the news content.
You can do a little more self-promoting too, you know?
Pay Attention
Do NOT mimic competitive strategies employed by major media like:
- click-baiting
- using fear, division, separation and hate to manipulate people
- ruthlessly competing against bloggers in your niche
Take the spirit of this post message to be:
“Well if major media can send 30 emails daily to obsessed newshounds at least I can promote 10 old posts daily to increase my traffic and income. I can baby step through self-promotional fears if these outlets have no self-promoting fears, shame or sense of embarrassment in blitzing their message.”
Frame this as comparison analysis to justify doing abundant, helpful stuff, strapping on some blogging balls to be bold, to get clear, to help more people and to accelerate your blogging success.
Promote Yourself Aggressively
I enjoy automating a high volume of updates on social media.
Sharing old posts on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook via automation promotes the posts aggressively across multiple channels.
I target every post via title and/or hashtag. But I go broad because if mainstream media promotes tweets to millions daily through highly aggressive self-promotion I better step up my game to publish a heavy volume of social media updates pointing to my blog on Twitter. Twitter allows for 1000 updates daily. Use a small but healthy chunk to point toward your blog. I promote lightly on LinkedIn and Facebook because both feel more allergic to links but still share 5-10 old blog posts daily on each platform.
Lose the fear of self-promoting. What you offer helps people and helps you IF you offer it more aggressively than a timid, scared marketing strategy.
It’s a freaking link to a helpful post not some asinine news media article proclaiming that wine kills you when last month wine was more critical to human survival than oxygen. Be posturing! Promote yourself aggressively to amplify your success.
Targeting Works But Do Not Fear Overlapping
Target your blogging campaign.
Optimize posts for SEO.
Hit your niche hashtags on social media.
Targeting drives quality blog traffic.
Targeting grows your blogging business.
BUT….
….do not fear overlapping into other audiences to accelerate your blogging success.
Major media targets their core audience but employs a scattershot approach to wind up in the stream of someone who has not clicked on a news site in years and who has not actively followed the news in 25 years. Never mind Old Yolk Dome the Dingdong greeting me with his vitriol on YouTube.
Give almost all energy toward targeting to build a rock solid foundation for your blog and business. But maximize blog traffic by catching the attention of people who knew not of their interest in your blog before coming across your blog.
Never try to sell the meat lover’s medley to a vegetarian but consider answering questions and building bonds for a few moments daily in less targeted communities.
I comment on a few updates via the 7.4 million member Travel Subreddit daily. At least 5-10 travelers reach out to me via message or comment every day.
My core audience:
- bloggers
- travel bloggers
Travelers on this subreddit do not necessarily fit into my targeted readership but just today someone who found me via the group asked me about my blog.
Target with most effort but give a few minutes to the numbers game.
Change some minds organically by being seen by a hefty number of folks who may just be interested in your blog.
Lose the Fear of Being Rejected as a Blogger
Obviously, major media decision makers largely lost the fear of rejection.
Do people who publish headlines clearly engineered to cause chaos largely fear what people think of them?
Take even a smidge of this mindset to get a bit over the fear of what people will:
- think
- say
- do
in response to your blogging activities.
Negative reviews are part of the blogging business.
Snarky comments happen.
Some despise you for being successful.
Others laugh at your failure.
So what?
Who cares?
As a rule, bloggers who reach the top overcome the fear of being rejected because rejection happens on this journey.
During weak moments think about the people who can give a frick less about publishing genuinely mad headlines designed to trigger fears.
You are doing something helpful, valuable, generous and uplifting.
Anyone who rejects uplifting blogging messages can go fly a kite.
Forgive them.
Proceed to help people who appreciate your blog.
Collaborate Aggressively to Open Channels Quickly
Major media moguls master the art of collaborating by building relationships with:
- politicians
- government officials
- heads of business
- anybody in the know when it comes to the news
Being connected offers major media higher ups the ability to distribute news through a broad range of channels quickly.
The big dawgs build relationships with people of worldly power, purchase newspapers, invest in TV stations and buy entertainment companies to spread their message far and wide, fast.
As an individual blogger, master the art of building relationships.
Comment genuinely on blogs. Engage in guest blogging. Promote bloggers on your blog.
Being connected gains significant exposure for your blog and online business.
Make blogging a team effort.
Conclusion
Extract a little bit of helpfulness, fearlessness and a willingness to be seen and heard clearly from strategies employed by major media.
Be bolder. Be more fearless. Help more people. Scale. Accelerate your blogging success.
