New Blogger Mindset: Do Your Expectations and Skills Match?

Creating the proper new blogger mindset humbles every beginner.

I don’t care who you are.

Everyone harbors at least a few delusional expectations.

The ego stings on discovering the truth.

Blogging requires work, practice, study, patience and ample time in order to go pro.

Ouch.

The blogging truth never spares the rod.

But at least you will never struggle for years if you:

  • face
  • own
  • feel
  • express
  • release

delusional, not sane, wild blogging expectations plaguing most new bloggers.

My friend Morris Grand published a post on his blog.

He clearly expresses a brilliant point in working with his clients. Morris advises them to take content seriously by setting realistic, attainable, honest, genuine goals that a new content marketer with budding skills would set.

Beginner bloggers possess meager skills not because of being no good, worthless or terrible. Nope. Never fall into that egoic trap of downing yourself.

BUT…..

…..beginner bloggers possess meager skills because new bloggers have no blogging:

  • experience
  • genuine practice

How can you be experienced when you have no experience? How can you be skilled when you have yet to practice blogging? How can you think like a professional blogger when you have a new blogger mindset?

Never take the answers to these questions personally. But always look at yourself and your blog in the light of truth.

Of course, new bloggers often set wild blogging expectations. Most expect to get rich quickly. Some expect massive blog traffic fast. None of these bloggers know what they are doing blogging-wise. None possess blogging skills. How can you be skilled if new at any venture?

When you have no idea what to do blogging-wise and possess no blogging skills but maintain wild, unrealistic blogging expectations you will set unrealistic workload goals (i.e., attempting to publish 2-3 posts daily as a new blogger), come up short, struggle, fail and quit 100% of the time.

The gap between new blogger expectations and new blogger skills is as wide as the Grand Canyon in most cases. You ain’t gonna cross it like Nik Wallenda; you will take one step off the ledge and plummet to the ground like Wile E. Coyote.

Baby Step Both Expectations and Skills

Baby step your blogging expectations with your blogging skills.

Slowly learn how to blog, first. Do nothing else. Expect nothing else. Invest in a blogging course. Invest in a blogging eBook. Learn patiently and persistently. Learn the fundamentals. Get comfortable with learning how to blog successfully.

At this point, you’re learning for the first time how to do something. Never expect to get anything out of it at this stage because you don’t know how to do it properly, yet.

Proceed to create and connect slowly but surely based on your newfound blogging education. Set the most modest, baby-stepping, realistic expectations to align with your baby-level blogging skills. Publish one blog post weekly. Help 3-5 bloggers daily. Spend 30 minutes daily learning and studying blogging. Celebrate your first blog visitor. Appreciate your first blog commentor.

Frame this approach as being natural, intelligent, abundant and relaxing. Your blog is a business asset built slowly, steadily and patiently, one tiny step at a time. Your blog is not an ATM. Your unrealistic expectations will not convert your blog into an ATM if you intend to publish 1 long-form, SEO-optimized post daily because no new blogger possesses the skills, experience, patience, knowledge, clarity and mindset to deliver detailed, smart, targeted traffic-boosting and profit-increasing blog post on a daily basis.

Relax. Slow down. Calm down.

Guess What?

Letting go wild, delusional blogging expectations frees you to patiently, calmly take the baby steps which develop blogging skills leading to those expectations coming true over the long term.

For example, when you stop trying to force your blog to make you a pro in a short time frame and you cease publishing one low quality post daily you spend a long time doing simple, realistic things which enable you to become a pro blogger who circles the globe but after years of intelligent blogging work, not weeks of delusion and ineffective, forced, low quality blogging work.

Wild blogging dreams come true when you let them go and baby step your way forward day-by-day over years of your blogging life.

When you let go the good and stop desperately or greedily chasing the great you simply do the basic, relaxing blogging work with almost no expectations that allows you to live dreams far beyond what the current you can conceive, over the long haul.

Doesn’t that sound like a good blogging deal?

Don’t you want to enjoy the blogging ride as you slowly but surely increase your targeted blog traffic?

Cultivate your new blogger mindset.

Allow your expectations to organically increase only after you patiently develop blogging skills through persistent practice.

Gradually, your blogging expectations dissolve into the process of having fun with helping people.

Let the work morph into the reward.

Perceive traffic and income expectations as a bonus or extra.

Fall in love with the process.

Allow blogging success to find you on its own time table.
