Yesterday we discussed following your passion to get backlinks.

Today I want to talk about doing the mindset work to score quality backlinks.

Before landing quality links one must believe the feat to be possible. I sure did not; at least for a while.

I never believed I could get featured on world famous blogs 18 years ago as a new blogger. How could I? I barely got any traffic on my old blog. Nobody knew who I was. Nobody trusted me. I lacked confidence. Big time.

My mind bled scarcity. I doubted myself.

Do scared bloggers land high quality backlinks? Never. How can you earn trust if you do not trust yourself? How can you gain massive exposure if you doubt your ability to generate even a tiny bit of exposure through your blog?

I had a mindset problem first and foremost. I did not believe in myself or my blog. Why would a highly successful blogger believe in me to the point of linking to my blog?

Blogging consistently appears to build confidence. But confidence comes first, before you do the work or you would not do the work in the first place. Every blog post is an act of faith. Bloggers believe in themselves to the point of publishing content for the outside world. Consider this to be the foundation for cultivating a successful blogging mindset. Believe in yourself. Publish blog posts. Gain greater confidence by blogging consistently.

What is the next step?

Believe in yourself and blog enough to publish content offsite. Credible bloggers link to bloggers who gain exposure. Being seen involves publishing:

  • social media content
  • guest posts
  • genuine blog comments

off-site.

Cue the scared feelings.

I tried to talk myself out of my greatest guest blogging opportunity.

A popular blogger invited me to guest post on his blog well over a decade ago. He gave me the keys to his blog. I almost turned him down. Why? I feared being criticized. I feared that nobody would read my posts. I feared that I’d waste his time. I feared that he’d revoke my guest blogging rights.

How did I land over 1000 backlinks through his blog? I did the mindset work.

I made the highly uncomfortable choice to begin guest blogging for him. Turning down the opportunity seemed like a comfortable choice. Yet how would I land those high quality backlinks if I ran away from the opportunity?

First you gain confidence in your blog posts. Then you gain confidence publishing content offsite, putting yourself out there for the general population. The general public can be cruel. But getting backlinks involves bridging the gap between your blog and the outside world.

The world puts you on a pedestal but also targets you. That’s how gaining massive exposure works. The sour arrives with the sweet.

I owned my limiting beliefs related to guest blogging, genuine blog commenting and publishing social media content. I faced, felt then forgave these ideas to guest blog, drop blog comments and create social media content consistently. Pro bloggers pointed backlinks to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com after I did mindset work.

How It Works

Beginner bloggers do not exist – online at least in terms of genuine collaborations – to seasoned professional bloggers. Both spend time in different blogging circles.

New bloggers usually surround themselves with new bloggers. Pro bloggers surround themselves with pro bloggers.

Committed new bloggers build the confidence to rise in blogging circles, beyond their comfort zone. Everyone who scores quality backlinks makes this leap of faith to go from being unseen to gaining incredible exposure.

Nobody enjoys gaining big-time exposure as a beginner. What if someone exposes you as a fraud? What if someone criticizes you through a biting blog comment? What if someone asks you a question you cannot answer?

Plagued by these fears, beginners run away from opportunities for moving higher in blogging circles until newbies leave their comfort zone to rise. I had to do it. You had to do it. Or you will need to do it.

Doing the mindset work means being aware of fears chattering in the mind. What fears arise the moment you email a successful blogger asking how you can help them? What anxieties trigger the moment you drop a detailed comment on a world famous blog? This is doing the mindset work. Observe, face then look past fears triggered in the mind. Leave your comfort zone. Reach out to the high level blogger. Submit the guest post. Embrace your fear of rejection. Hug your fear of failing. Step into your fear of wasting time.

I scored backlinks from some of the top bloggers on earth after I feared I’d wasted my time. Why would a famous pro read my comments? Why would a high level blogger link to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com? Would these pros disagree with me? Would these pros rescind their guest blogging invites? One part of my split mind felt confident. One part of my split mind felt doubtful.

All the negative chatter obnoxiously weaseled through my mind. I watched the feelings, felt these emotions then forgave the ideas to get the job done.

I know of no secret to get past negative emotions, save spotting, feeling then looking past the energies.

No one scores high quality backlinks until they go through this process.
