I vowed to never write a post like this one.
But everyone breaks blogging rules sooner than later. Goodness knows I break more than a few.
No one tip stands out for beginner bloggers. Starting successfully involves following multiple steps consistently. New bloggers do many things to start off on the right foot.
You did click on the title though. That’s why you’re here.
What should new bloggers do?
Write their ass off.
The Best Thing I Did as a New Blogger
I wrote like the dickens as a beginner. I recall crying after writing 300 words. I struggled to go beyond that imagined mental block. I persisted. I wrote 300 words on some days. I wrote 500 words on other days. I wrote my ass off.
Writing gave me confidence. I became bold enough to publish blog posts for the general public. Putting in repetitions inspired me to put myself out there. Most beginners know that putting yourself out there is a big deal. The gen pop is scary. Nasty critics await. People waiting to pick apart your blog lurk in the cyber shadows. I feared these unpleasant people. But I wrote. Writing is the only way to get past your fears. Writing consistently goads you to publish consistently.
Fortunately, beginner bloggers have all the tools required to become highly successful:
- WordPress Dot OrgĀ
- fingers
Bloggers need nothing else.
Yet beginners look for everything else.
Tools Cannot Replace Skills
Beginners look for tools to make life easier. AI. Plug ins. Widgets. Premium tools. Free tools. Cheap tools. Tools to do all of the blogging work for you. Tools to do most of the blogging work for you. Tools to do some of the blogging work for you.
Every one falls flat on their blogging face. Guaranteed. Tools cannot make up for skills. A hammer does nothing by itself. An inanimate object does nothing solo. Skilled carpenters make a hammer sing. Becoming a skilled carpenter takes practice. Skilled pros put in serious repetitions. High level pros practice for years before reaching the top.
What Should Newbie You Do?
Open a Word document. Write 500 words daily. Cover any topic. Cover your niche. Talk about life away from your niche. Whatever. Write. Gain confidence. Establish clarity. Find your writing voice. Let your genuine voice surface. Write. Blog from the heart. But trash the document after reaching your daily word count. Practice psychological attachment. Cultivate this invaluable newbie blogger skill; few do. Hence the beginner blogger failure rate being so damn astronomical.
Publish one long form blog post weekly to keep readers current. Ship. Put yourself out there. Put content out there for public consumption. Writing in private positions you to shine in public. Publishing blog posts is how to dip your toes into the general population. Take this critical step. Get comfortable with being judged. Ease into fielding negative feedback. Learn how to look past harsh critics.
Here’s the kicker; get used to dealing with praise. Most beginners get a big head after one positive comment. I prepared myself for Oprah Winfrey’s interview couch (I began blogging in 2008 folks) after receiving a glowing testimonial early on. Boy was I wrong. The first negative comment after this sugary sweet praise popped my swelled head.
Writing got me through it all. I fell in love with the process. I perfected my craft.
Beginner bloggers; put in the repetitions. Look past tools for a bit. Stop getting hung up on techniques. Get comfortable with writing. Write like crazy. Write daily for practice. Publish at least one post weekly. Develop the number one blogging skill. Nothing comes close to writing because how you write determines if people trust your blog posts. If people trust your blog posts they tend to trust you.
One Benefit of Writing as a Beginner Blogger
Beginner bloggers deeply fear being criticized.
Writing consistently knifes through this fear. Practicing instills confidence in your mind. Who cares if a negative critic skewers your blog? You know your stuff. You practice writing daily. Things will come together. The more you write the easier it gets to see through the cowardice of blogging critics; especially during the early days when we all fear nasty folks exposing our tender inner weaknesses.
Flex your writing muscles. Practice writing to publish confidently. Practice writing to ease through writer’s block. Write consistently to comment confidently on high profile blogs. Publish helpful content to social media. Publish helpful content to sites like Reddit and Quora. Hit the blogging ground running. Write like mad. Put in your writing repetitions.

Practice In Private
Some rare new bloggers want all the smoke. We know these cats as being up for any blogging challenge.

Practice and then some is doing what it takes in every walk of life.
You with your basketball drills, me with my cycling (i used to train 300 miles a week in winter on a road bike with skinny tyres) and then with the running. I kept to the basics.. and they worked. And would still work… rather than adopting some new fad, or some new item of clothing that’ll make you run 0.5 secs faster over 10 km.
write every day. and also read every day. create those skills
This is the recipe for succeeding with any venture. Do the repetitions. Do the simple things that most skip but be extraordinarily consistent. The world skips doing simple things. Most take shortcuts. But if you skip the practice you never become highly skilled. Becoming highly skilled is how to earn credibility.
Excellent points all around.
300 miles weekly is no joke; especially during the winter time.
