Bath England
Do you trust bank robbers?
Well hell….they do make a ton of money, do they not?
How about Bernie Madoff? Did you trust him? He made a crazy amount of dough. That makes him credible, right?
Look closely at the average politician.
Most politicians:
- take your money
- spend it in ways that ultimately benefit politicians the most (and you….somewhat)
- hide how they spend the money with various laws and/or chicanery
- tell you to trust that they know how to spend your money best
Some politicians make millions of dollars as public servants while sticking to the above song and dance.
Do you perceive politicians to typically be highly trustworthy?
My point is this: acquiring any amount of money only suggests that one developed the money-making skill, whether the income is a penny or $1 million USD.
Making money does not necessarily suggest that a blogger is:
- a highly skilled teacher
- credible
- a highly experienced guide
- the right person to guide you to live your dreams
Sometimes, your truly helpful content never nets you a dime. Other times, less inspired content generates steady income.
What gives?
Being an effective teacher does not correlate to making a steady volume of blogging income.
University Professors
Peruse salaries for university professors.
Some incredible teachers who empower students to live their dreams make not much money at all.
Imagine someone who puts you on a successful life trajectory earning a modest to even low income.
Being a highly skilled guide has little to do with generating income.
Making money is one skill.
Teaching people is a different skill.
Bloggers and Income
Manipulative bloggers adept at using fear to frighten income out of readers may publish thin, not too helpful content.
Does this make a 6 figure blogger credible? Why would you believe someone who developed the skill of acquiring money while never developing the skill of publishing truly helpful content that benefits you handsomely?
Getting something from someone does not mean you are good at giving something to help someone. Re-read the bank robber and Bernie Madoff mentions above to experience the message I intend to convey.
Some less than impressive bloggers who publish weak content lacking practicality harbor no mental blocks to money. I remember observing a 6 figure blogger who struggled to express himself in the English language. He was a kindly individual. His content lacked genuine value, being void of practical tips. Said blogger struggled to get his point across in English.
Yet he earned 6 figures per year because he clung to no conscious and unconscious fears to receiving money. He did not pull down that sweet salary because he was highly trustworthy, or because he published the most practical, in-depth guides.
Do you understand why assessing credibility on blogging income claims is a bad idea?
No one proves their credibility based on their income because making money and being skilled, truly helpful and empowering are vastly different skills to develop.
My Life
Between businesses and jobs, I have engaged in over a dozen ventures. From mowing lawns for old women as a little kid, holding a summer job as a janitor in my high school, working various office jobs and running businesses online, I earned various incomes through each.
My highest paying job did not match my skills. I felt overwhelmed. I frankly did a poor job before quitting because I severely lacked credibility.
I was the most skilled, credible, trustworthy worker on the 2nd shift of my lowest paying job. I became the informal night manager at that job because fellow employees looked to me for leadership.
So I was paid handsomely for doing a poor job and earned the most modest of salaries doing a fabulous job.
Receiving money has little to do with how much value you give through any venture. Taking things up a notch, your credibility as a:
- content creator
- mentor
- blogging leader
has little correlation to your blogging income.
Some of the biggest liars make the most money.
Some of the most genuine folks make the least money.
A blogger addled with mental blocks about making money may be the most credible, highly skilled mentor whose posts offer you a blueprint to follow for solving problems. Why would you distrust them?
Why would you trust a blogger who makes 6 figures but lacks credibility, skills and long form, practical content?
One Important Note
Some top earners are truly helpful, credible blogging guides.
Some struggling bloggers publish thin, forgettable content.
In a world of duality, some bloggers do not emit an illusion based on their income.
But this post may cause you to think twice before adding significance to blogging income claims.
