“I want to start a business. But I cannot afford it.”

How many people make this excuse?

Hey; I don’t blame them.

Certain business models require a pretty penny for getting started. From various franchising models to higher end brick and mortar numbers, businesses bankrupt beleaguered entrepreneurs for good reason. Not too many folks have thousands of dollars sitting around to burn.

Blogging is an attractive, low-cost alternative to capital-sucking businesses.

Minus investing in your domain and hosting – which is non-negotiable – no blogger needs to dip into their wallet for anything else.

Free tools, free sites and free-to-execute tactics form the basis of some professional blogging careers.

But before you go all gaga over blogging on a budget, consider this: working intelligent, patiently and consistently for years lays the foundation for a successful blogging career.

Look at the phrase “BLOGGING on a budget.”

Look above. Look below. That’s the *budget* part.

The *blogging* part involves creating targeted content (and comments) for 1000’s of hours spanning years of your life.

Now that the tire kickers have left the building, let’s discuss a few reasons why blogging is a great way to build a business on a budget.

1: Low Domain and Hosting Cost

Budget conscious bloggers usually invest $100 to $200 per year on their domain and hosting.

Blogging is about the best way to build a business on a budget based on this factor alone.

Consider offline businesses. Can you rent office space for $100 to $200 a year? Anything is possible but the blogging overhead pretty much beats offline competition across the board.

Dirt cheap packages run from $7 to $10 per month. Although I suggest upgrading hosting solutions as your traffic increases, most people can start comfortably with these dollar amounts to stay in their purse.

Hosting costs increase as your traffic grows. But no one really needs to invest thousands of dollars yearly to maintain their blog. At least, no one reading this post needs to pony up to those astronomical levels.

Invest a few bucks to buy your piece of online real estate.

Blog on a budget by dropping a modest sum on securing your tidy little cyber spot.

2: Free Access to Billions

Is 5 billion social media users a big enough free audience for your blog? No one needs to pay a dime to access these folks.

X, Facebook, Threads and YouTube make up over half of the world’s population.

Any blogger on a shoestring budget can reach this massive audience for free.

The social media trick is to:

  • publish targeted content
  • engage resonant users

Be consistent with each approach.

daily.

I reply to comments and messages. I also engage bloggers via their social media updates to grab the blogging bull by the horns.

Offer media/content and be social/chatty. Being social and publishing media pleases the algorithm. Happy algorithms send traffic to your social media profile. Some folks hop scotch over to your blog.

3: Free Leveraging Strategies

Guest blogging and genuine blog commenting form my favorite 1-2 punch of all time.

Alas, I migrated away from each a few years ago to capitalize on billions of social media users.

Yet I guide bloggers to work each tactic.

Guest blogging is a free leveraging strategy. Guest posting for successful bloggers from your niche expands your presence exponentially; and you never need to spend a penny.

Genuine blog commenting is a free way to gain exposure via the comments field at the end of blog posts.

Share value through each strategy. Submit your best work. Make a seismic impact with guest posts and comments.

Ease into new blogging audiences. Establish a consistent presence before familiar audiences.

I gain most backlinks through this combination. Guest blogging offers me maximum exposure with each post. Genuine blog commenting yields quick exposure via each comment.

Help people with detailed guest posts and authentic blog comments.

What you save in money you pay in terms of value, time and effort.

4: Minimal Optional Costs

Premium themes typically cost well under $100 USD. Most range from $50 USD to perhaps a few hundred clams.

Anyone can invest a little chedda in a premium theme.

But technically this is optional.

I guide bloggers to buy a premium theme. But if times are financially tight, feel free to forego this.

As for plug-ins and other tools, nothing breaks the bank. Most tools cost a few bucks per month. Some cost more yet the bare bones applications get the job done.

I currently invest in my domain and hosting. I drop ducats on nothing else.

Do I need to blog on a shoestring?

No and yes.

No; I can afford to invest in premium tools.

Yes; I stay on my toes by publishing detailed content to free platforms. Looking past investing in tools saves me time and energy. Instead of relying on mindless tools to handle generic output I mindfully create highly targeted content which hits the mark consistently.

I tend to think right-side up. 🙂

Conclusion

There’s never been a better time to begin blogging.

Take advantage of this low cost business model.

Publish targeted content consistently.

Lay a granite-like foundation for your venture…..on the cheap.
