I love building quality backlinks.

But I see a real problem with most backlink building strategies.

Backlink seekers get stuck in time.

Some travel back in time, trying to do what worked 5 years ago.

Some travel forward in time, trying to predict what may work in the future.

Most of all, the majority of bloggers are imprisoned to the current year.

We appear to be in 2026 currently. As strange as it sounds, blogger really believe that strategies titled,

“How to Build Backlinks in 2026”

work only from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.

Making matters even more bizarre, some question whether the strategies will work next year.

Where are these doubting bloggers NOT?

Here and now. Right now. In the present moment. Ya know; where the timeless, fundamental, evergreen backlink building fundamentals are.

Time Is a Trick That Forces You to Do More Work Later

Bloggers screw up by being specific in time then need to update everything because the specifics always change in time.

I err too in this regard; sometimes. I generally publish evergreen content rooted in timeless fundamentals. That way, I do not need to update my:

  • blog posts
  • online course for sale
  • eBooks for sale

Fundamentally, what worked in 2014 works now and works 10 years from now as long as human beings exist.

Websites change. *Specific* strategies change. Fundamentals remain timeless.

I want to flesh out a few fundamentals below to get you in the proper backlink building frame of mind.

What Backlink Building Approach Works in Any Year?

Publish highly detailed content to your blog.

Create practical content offsite through:

  • guest blogging
  • creating content for social media
  • answering questions on Q and A sites

Build strong bonds with readers. Answer their questions. Help them.

Build strong bonds with bloggers from your niche.

From year zero to 2026 each strategy builds quality backlinks.

I Get the Google Page 1 Game

I get it. Bloggers add dates to titles to rank on page 1 of Google. But I perceive this strategy to be flawed for a few reasons:

  • topical content; if it ain’t evergreen it needs updating or else readers distrust the content (this wastes time, work and resources in the future)
  • the fundamentals never change

Look at the bullet point list above. Zombies make guest blogging, social media and Q and A sites irrelevant. I am saying this; until zombies eat every last human being on planet earth, guest blogging, social media and Q and A sites seem to be alive and well. Humans power each.

Bloggers help humans through each medium. Successful bloggers follow each medium. Successful bloggers see truly helpful content through each medium, click through to blogs and drop high quality backlinks pointing to blogs.

The Fundamentals? Changeless

The fundamentals never change.

People change. People change their minds. People believe the fundamentals change from one year to the next. But this is not true. Fundamentals are timeless. Websites change. Yet look at the bullet point list above. Go ahead; look at it again. I noted generalized niches not specific sites. I never said that specific blogs, specific social media sites or specific question and answer sites will be around forever; none will. Reddit may go away. Quora may vanish. Facebook can disappear (not for a long time).

My blog will probably go away after the Parable of Ryan Biddulph ends.

But the fundamentals?

Timeless.

(Whoops. Writing break. Earthquake warning on my phone. Damn that’s loud. OK; no shaking. Northern California, eh? Back to writing…..)

The fundamentals change not.

Follow the fundamentals.

Stick to the basics.

You cannot lose.

You cannot miss.

Why Does This Basic Strategy Yield Quality Backlinks?

One clear blogger offers quality backlinks: a highly successful blogger.

Credible bloggers drop credible backlinks pointing to your blog.

Credible bloggers read:

  • blogs (guest blogging)
  • Facebook, X, Pinterest and BlueSky (social media)
  • Quora and Reddit (Q and A sites)

Credible bloggers come across your content and say:

“That’s really good stuff. Lemme click through to their blog, snag a post and link to it from my blog.”

That, my blogging friends, is what we call a quality backlink.

The process works because it is a simple way to pop up on the successful blogger radar screen.

But I neglected to mention one backlink building secret weapon. I guarded the tactic……until now. I noted this technique in prior posts. I have not expounded upon it today, though.

Genuine Blog Commenting

Genuine blog commenting is the most underrated way to score quality backlinks.

Is it timeless?

You bet.

Blog comments:

  • earn social proof
  • build a sense of community
  • forge strong bonds between readers

Bloggers crave genuine comments. Dropping genuine comments curries favor with any successful blogger. Pros appreciate authentic blog comments.

Genuine blog commenting influences successful bloggers to link to your blog.

I scored a handful of high quality backlinks by dropping detailed blog comments on authority blogs consistently.

Pros:

  • appreciated my effort
  • clicked through to my blog
  • linked to my blog home page
  • linked to individual posts on my blog

Authentic blog commenting opened the door. Honest blog commenting opens the door today, tomorrow or ten years in the future. Few bloggers get it. Most seem hardwired to only consider the direct benefits of blog commenting.

The indirect benefits of blog commenting outweigh the obvious direct prize.

Driving direct traffic through blog comments seems convenient enough.

Building strong relationships with pro bloggers is biggest upside of genuine blog commenting; the indirect approach is less convenient because it demands increased time, work and mindfulness. But every highly successful blogging strategy behaves like a long term investment not a quick transaction that lives today and dies tomorrow.

Think About the Timeless Moment Not Specific Years

I covered the topic of how to get quality backlinks in practical detail here on Blogging From Paradise Dot Com.

I have a different purpose for this post.

Focus on how to get quality backlinks now and forever.

Be truly helpful for human beings.

How do you help people?

  • blog
  • guest blog
  • publish practical content on social media
  • answer questions on Q and A sites

But shift your attention from the *how* to *now*.

Bloggers fail to build credible links for focusing on the how not the now.

How it goes:

  • you follow a specific strategy for a short time
  • you get frustrated because no credible blogger links to your blog
  • you quit your backlink building strategy

What happened?

You told yourself:

“I NEED to follow these SPECIFIC STRATEGIES and work REALLY HARD AT THEM for a specific TIME and then I will GET a TON of coveted backlinks.”

Did the timeless fundamentals of helping people through a few channels for years factor in to your strategy?

Nope.

Failure followed but only because you ceased being present, helping people and being patient for the long haul.

Most Strategies for Building Backlinks Are Useless Because….

….the mind of the backlink builder is:

  • riddled
  • addled
  • chaotic
  • terrified
  • greedy
  • desperate
  • hopeless

The strategy is proven.

But your mind does not follow it consistently.

Where is the problem?

Your mind.

How do you fix the problem?

Take the spirit of my post to heart.

Conclusion

Help people.

Be present.

Build quality backlinks in any year by remembering these timeless fundamentals.

Your Turn

How do you build quality backlinks?

Do you think timelessly?

I’m curious about how building backlinks looks in different niches. Do you think some industries have an easier time than others?

    • Ryan Biddulph says:

      Hi TR,

      I do not think so.

Different niches are fueled by human beings. Humans possess a remarkably similar mindset, if not psychology. Being armed with the same mental tools, being driven by similar interests, building quality backlinks is not different for any specific niche.

Create value. Build connections. Earn trust. Influence pro bloggers to link to your blog.

Some niches may require deeper due diligence to pop up on the radar screen of pro bloggers. Yet adding time to the process does not make it difficult…..from my perspective, at least.
