I get messages from backlink builders daily.
Each specialist asks me for backlinks, or invites me to trade backlinks with them.
But none think from my perspective.
Why would I put my blog on the line for a stranger who asks for a favor?
Let me ask you something.
If a stranger asked for your bank account information as a favor, would you offer it freely to the individual?
My blog is somewhat symbolic of my online bank account. I earn credibility through Blogging From Paradise Dot Com. I gain trust through this site. I patiently published practical blogging tips since 2014 to build my blog into an online resource.
Content made the blog.
Why would I throw that all away by dropping backlinks from strangers into the content that earns my bread? Would I do that because I felt guilty and wished to do someone a favor? Would I do this for $5, $10 or maybe $20?
Thinking from my perspective, the pitch makes no sense.
But almost no backlink building specialist thinks from the perspective of established bloggers.
Begging inevitably follows.
I mean it.
Begging manifests as specialists reaching out to strangers then following up once, twice or three times. This quiet desperation seems lauded as being “persistent” but it is an unintelligent, time-wasting strategy proving to pros the NON backlink worthiness of the blog. Chasing a pro blogger proves to the pro that linking to your blog is a bad idea. Scared, struggling bloggers chase.
Dropping links pointing to low quality blogs instantly lowers the quality of your blog.
Who does that?
I guarantee you; successful bloggers never do that. No sane human would do it.
Does it make sense to diminish your blogging credibility for $10 or a favor?
I don’t think so.
Successful bloggers publish trustworthy content which magnetizes itself to quality backlinks.
Content builds backlinks.
Content Drives Quality Backlinks
Highly-detailed, targeted, practical blog posts influence seasoned bloggers to link to said content.
How it works; patient bloggers steadily publish a volume of truly helpful content covering a singular niche to establish authority. Full-time bloggers gradually see the content as the helpful posts pop up on the collective radar screen in the niche.
Successful bloggers drop backlinks to these trusted resources to:
- serve readers
- fortify their reputation
- appease the Google algorithm
This is how to get backlinks.
This is how to become free from time and location.
Build content-assets which work for you around the clock.
Develop posture.
Gain authority.
What’s the Catch?
As always in a world of duality, a catch awaits you.
If following the above process was easy than every blogger would easily land quality backlinks consistently.
But it is not easy; my inbox proves it. Backlink specialists do not invest thousands of hours towards publishing heavily-targeted, long-form, practical content. If they did, none would be spamming my inbox because high quality backlinks would flood their blogs over the years.
Being the “backlink hunter” is basically a mindless activity of pitching as many bloggers a backlink trade as humanly possible. In theory, it sounds like a good idea until the time-wasting element enters your mind. Imagine how many thousands of hours you waste pitching bloggers who do not want or need your backlinks.
The challenging aspect of being the “backlink hunted” is confidently publishing detailed blog posts for quite a long time before quality backlinks point to your blog. Typically, the stretch spans thousands of hours. Bloggers publish content for months then years before pros link to their content. Why? Becoming a skilled writer who gains cred in the eyes of pros requires ample practice.
Pro bloggers began linking to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com after I spent thousands of hours publishing hundreds of blog posts. I had to practice writing for a long time before successful bloggers read my posts and said to themselves:
“I want to drop a link pointing to his blog. I trust his content. I know my readers will benefit by reading this blog post.”
Do you know how much writing practice and content creation it takes to influence a pro blogger to think that way?
Practicing for this stretch of time is not easy. All manner of fears trigger in your mind during the time frame.
Bloggers fear wasting time. Some fear losing money. Others fear being criticized.
I could list the specific fears for hours if I wanted to do so.
The point is this: it takes a long time, significant writing practice and a full commitment to publishing detailed content consistently before pros link to your blog.
Content builds backlinks.
But publishing backlink-worthy content takes a great deal of practice.
Most folks say, “Screw that!”, then proceed to pitch strangers for backlink trades.
I see nothing inherently wrong with that blind pitching strategy.
But trading time and location for money is not becoming free from time and location, is it?
What Type of Content Scores Quality Backlinks?
Publish 1000 plus word blog posts.
List as many practical steps as possible to migrate readers from problem to solution.
Cover one niche to establish topical authority.
Be consistent. Publish at least one long form post weekly to pop up on the radar screen within your niche.
Building content-assets that work for you is a long haul activity. Take no shortcuts. Do the work. Put in the time. Remember why you chose to blog. Recall the benefits of creating content that frees you from time and location.
Find the internal driver to wade through fears.
Frame creating content as a long term investment. Eventually you can circle the globe as a pro blogger if you publish detailed content consistently over the years.
Doesn’t that pay off sound better than begging strangers for 10 hours a day?
Conclusion
Think like an entrepreneur not an employee.
Build content-assets.
Stop trading time for backlinks.
Begging scares off successful bloggers.
Publishing detailed content attracts and impresses pros who link to your blog.
The process is long and challenging at times.
But so is every worthy investment in this world.
Why not publish thorough content to get quality links versus being ignored by pro bloggers forever?
