What Can Bloggers Control?

I spent the past day concentrating on distribution.

I promoted a few old blog posts.

Okay; I promoted a heavy volume of blog posts.

I also published detailed content to Facebook and LinkedIn.

Everything worked out nicely.

I liked my returns.

I had fun.

But at 8:00 Pacific Time I decided it was time to take control again.

I wrote and published this blog post.

I control my blog. I control nothing else online. I set the rules here. I established the Blogging From Paradise Dot Com algorithm. I run the show here. I am in full control of my blog.

I Control Nothing Else Online

I am not in control of Google. I am not in control of X. I certainly have zero control of Facebook. I am not in control of LinkedIn. I do not control Reddit. I do not control my email list. I appear to own the list but strong regulations dominate email marketing in the United States of America. Strong regulations remove my control, folks. Perhaps your country is different. If so that works out for you. But I do not have that type of control over my email list.

I do not control distribution strategies. I do not establish the algorithm anywhere else other than on my blog. My blog doesn’t really have an algorithm. I just like saying this as a joke. But I do completely control my blog.

So do you.

Do You Capitalize on Your Control?

How many detailed posts can you publish weekly? However many you want to. How many detailed posts can you publish daily? The sky’s the limit. Pump the brakes on that one though. Nobody but highly experienced veterans are that good.

Anyway, get into the spirit of this post. Spend more time on what you control. Spend less time where you have no control. You may think that you control Facebook or LinkedIn or Reddit or your email list but the world has a funny way of teaching you otherwise.

I felt tempted to go today without writing a blog post. I wanted to double down on distribution even more this evening. But something told me to write this post. Something else told me to cover this topic. I’m walking my blogging talk here. I decided to go where I have full creative control over the process.

Facebook and Google Can Disappear My Blog

Facebook can bury my posts today. Google can do the same. But I can publish however many posts I want here. Nobody can take that away from me. I can publish a 2000 word blog post today. Nobody can set limits on that. I own everything here. So do you. At least I hope you do.

You dance on razor blades for Google yet back burner your blog. Why? You can do whatever you want through your blog. Google will turn you upside down and inside out, backwards and forwards and the site spits you out too. You may drive Google traffic for now. But artificial intelligence dominates the top result for every keyword. People also pay for sponsored rankings. What does that say about Google? Does Google prioritize organic results? How could they? Something artificial and people who pay get sweet traffic. People who write blog posts to truly help readers find it a little more difficult to gain exposure on Google these days.

But you can fire up your blog and write a detailed post discussing these topics. What’s stopping you from doing that? Why don’t you go back to where you control things? Ask these questions. Squirm a little bit before you answer them.

Distribution Is Number Two

I understand how distribution plays an important role in becoming a successful blogger. But publishing blog posts plays the most important role by a mile because you have full control over these pieces of content.

Think about it. Bloggers publish however many detailed posts the individual sets their mind to. I recall a highly successful blogger who published two to three long-form posts daily for a year. The individual eventually rocked it out because he was smart enough to give most attention and energy to cyber real estate that he controlled.

He also dove into a super aggressive distribution campaign later on. But he was smart enough to lay the foundation through his blog. He spent most time on a site where he had full creative control. He also had zero limits as far as the depth and frequency of content. Of course that’s how he made his millions. Distribution simply amplified his fortune. The fortune was in building up his online real estate not sprinting away towards channels where he had no creative control or any control for that matter.

I hate to rain on the social media parade. I hate to kick Google in the soft stuff. I hate to put a damper on building an email list. I never oppose the strategies. But I am always pro-blogging. Always have been. Always will be.

Go Back to Your Blog

Go back to your blog. Spend time where you have full creative control. Nobody shackles you save yourself in this one spot. Bloggers look past this fact. You can do whatever you want on your blog. Why would you not take advantage of that to the hilt? You’re prioritizing everything but your blog. Why is that?

Devaluing your blog is common because about everyone values list building and Google over owned online real estate. Picture this analogy. You pay for a mansion but keep it empty and never move in. You decide to live in a tiny apartment. The landlord can evict you anytime for any reason.

Be smart.

Move into your mansion.

Fill it up with furniture.

You paid for the thing. You own it.

You paid for a domain and hosting. Now it’s time to fill it with detailed, thorough, targeted blog posts consistently. Fill it up. Build  your online real estate.

Invest time and energy intelligently.

Bloggers have full creative control of their blogs.

Stepping away from your real estate gives up your control.

Why would you do that consistently?

Build posture.

Get back to where you have full creative control.

Become a successful blogger by running everything to and through your blog.
