Most bloggers mean well.

But few understand blogging.

Blogging is a skill.

Blogging is not a fast way to make money online. Running a blog is not a way to pay your bills quickly. Nor is blogging an easy way to get popular.

Blogging is not a quick way to gain attention.

Blogging never works this way.

Yet bloggers attempt to capitalize on these misunderstandings. Some make blogging look easy. Others claim that blogging is easy.

How do these appearances influence confused bloggers?

Lost bloggers believe untrue ideas.

I struggled for a while because I believed that blogging was easy. Top pros made it look easy. Some claimed blogging to be easy. But blogging is not easy.

Blogging becomes easier after practicing for years.

I developed the ability to write this post in 45 minutes flat because I wrote for 15,000 hours. What seems easy to me now was not easy to me 15,000 writing hours ago.

Blogging works the same way for any full-time blogger. Pros practice through thick and thin before blogging seems easy for the individual.

*Seems* Easy

Blogging seems easy because appearances deceive.

Appearances are not truth.

Seeming scenarios are not reality.

I need to stress these facts.

Being truthful snaps the blogging world out of its delusion. Being less deluded grounds you in reality. Being realistic sets you on a genuine blogging path. Being genuine positions you to succeed.

Blogging Is a Genuine Skill

Stop treating blogging like an easy to access ATM.

Blogging demands you to:

  • learn how to succeed
  • practice persistently
  • succeed by developing the skill known as “blogging”

Observe any skill.

Pro hoopers developed their basketball skills for a long time.

Doctors learned and practiced medicine for a long time.

Lawyers learned and practiced law for a long time.

Pro bloggers learn and practice blogging for a long time.

Blogging requires less moving parts than medicine and law but demands the same effort.

Bloggers slam into heavy resistance at various stages. Practicing diligently dissolves resistance. Most harbor unconscious mental blocks preventing blogging success. Chipping away at mental maladies takes great time and consistent work. Hence the 15,000 hour number I bandied about above.

Blogging Is Simple

Blogging is simple.

Create content.

Build connections.

But creating and connecting as fears trigger is not easy.

Develop blogging skills through inevitable ups and downs.

Did your traffic dry up? Practice.

Did your blogging income go away?  Practice.

Does nobody read your blog? Practice.

Observe Successful Individuals

Highly successful individuals became highly skilled individuals.

Highly skilled folks practiced for years before hitting it big. Every human walks this path. Iconoclasts still develop skills even if their success time frame seems short compared to average individuals.

I wrote for months before anyone visited my old blog. People did not buy into my writing; I had not practiced enough to become skilled, clear and convincing. Organically, since I did not put in the time I did not grow a loyal blog following. I had to earn it.

Writing in quiet challenged me. I wondered if anyone would ever read my blog.

Yet I practiced writing.

Practicing during lean times eventually drew loyal readers to my old blog.

I practiced in private to shine in public.

I put in the work even when no one appeared to listen.

You will need to walk a similar journey.

No one thrives before being tested.

No blogger succeeds before developing skills through patient practice.

Why Genuine?

Blogging is a legitimate medium.

Bloggers help to change reader’s lives through this powerful platform.

I guide bloggers to retire to a life of island hopping through smart blogging. I call that legit. More than a few bloggers desire migrating from their 9-5 life to a freeing life of travel.

Imagine wanting to leave your job more than anything. Would leaving your job behind to circle the globe as a pro blogger sound legitimate to you?

Bloggers change lives.

But only bloggers who see themselves as being legit do life-changing things.

Most bloggers run themselves down.

Some think, “Who will read my blog, anyway?”

Others treat blogging like some laughingstock.

Perceiving blogging to be a joke makes you difficult to believe. Who succeeds by downing their craft? Who thrives by possessing zero belief in self?

I mean not bloggers who engage in mild self-deprecating humor.

I mean bloggers who never commit to blogging because it seems silly to them.

Some perceive blogging to be less than legitimate. Why would you go pro if blogging is not at all legitimate to you?

Practical Blogging Tips

Follow these practical blogging tips to treat blogging like a genuine skill:

  • learn blogging from pros to start successfully
  • surround yourself with pro bloggers to blog with realistic expectations
  • treat blogging like a skill not a quick way to make money online
  • practice diligently to gain confidence in your blogging skills

Blogging is a real skill.

Getting good at blogging means practicing for a long time.

I still practice persistently as a long-term blogging veteran. I need to practice because if I didn’t then my blogging skills would go away.

The mind is a mental muscle. No one sees it with the eyes because the mind is invisible. But if you do not use it you lose it.

Blogging skills grow in the mind even if the skills appear to manifest in the body.

Practice to build powerful mental skill muscles carrying you on toward greater blogging success.

Everything depends on your willingness to practice blogging.

Write and publish long form blog posts.

Engage in genuine blogger outreach.

Answer reader questions via social media.

Create and sell an online course.

Write, self-publish and sell eBooks.

Practice diligently.

Put in the time.

Become highly skilled at this legitimate means of being truly helpful for a specific group of people.

For me, this group is bloggers hungry for blogging tips.

But that group probably looks different for you.

At any rate, practice your ass off.

Become skilled.

Become truly helpful.

Succeed by committing to blogging.

No need to take it seriously because tension negates.

Commit to blogging from a playful vibe.

Do the work to prosper.

Conclusion

Blogging is a genuine skill.

Treat it as such.

Develop the skill through patient practice.

Become truly helpful to solve problems for a targeted reader.

Commit to blogging by seeing it as being legit.

Change lives through that commitment…..including your own.
