Why does the scattershot approach never work?
You know what I mean. Spam. Send as many unsolicited emails to strangers as possible. One should hit the mark. One backlink. One link placement. At least one out of a 100….or 1000….right?
Wrong. Nope. Sorry. No dice. Ain’t gonna happen.
The logic is easy to understand. I do not hand strangers my bank account information. Nor should you. You should never have the keys of your blog to a stranger for dozens of reasons. You have no idea who they are. What site would the stranger link to? Does the stranger have the best interests of your tribe in their mind? Do they blog primarily for your community?
NOPE.
How could they know what you and your tribe want if they do not know you and your tribe? They are strangers, folks. Active, loyal, compassionate tribe members know what everyone in the community wants. Everyone else is an outsider who has no clue in hell. How could they know? They are on the outside looking in.
They want a quick link then leave.
Which is why this strategy never works.
From my perspective……
“Hi. I know we have never met. My name is John Dough. I would love to write an article for you. I would love to access a loyal community even though you do not know me, trust me or deem me to be credible. Trust me; I will submit only the highest quality content. I will not link to a questionable business site. I promise, I will not do it. Take me at me word….even though you have no clue in hell who I am. Looking forward to your positive response. I’d appreciate a follow up to this cold pitch from a stranger because really, when you think about it, you owe me because I am fully entitled to your time (I mean I did spam you after all) and surely you must not be busy, because what would a blogger who circles the globe non-stop be up to? If you do not reply in 1-2 business days I will circle the wagon and follow up because bloggers tell me that following up as a stranger with strangers is the best way to build a thriving blogging business, let alone achieve freedom from time and location.”
Yeah…..this is why spamming strangers with a scattershot approach never works.
I advise doing this.
I linked to my online course for sale, above.
Read the outline. My strategy is to build content and connections into assets. Assets build backlinks for you passively. This is how I do it. This is how to do it for freedom seekers.
Most bloggers – and humans – are just trying to survive. Most backlink builders just try to survive. Most people just try to get by. None of these individuals give themselves time to think clearly. Lacking clarity scares ’em into chasing strangers with cold pitches that make no sense.
The people themselves are cool but their strategies lack logic. Re-read the email above. The blogger you want to convince thinks that way. Why would anyone hand their bank account to a stranger? Why would anyone who spent 18 years building a certain reputation put 18 years on the line for a stranger? Would I do it as a favor? Would I do it because I felt guilty? Would I do it for $5? Would I do it for $100 or $1000?
Everyone has to make a living. But bloggers follow my blog for smart blogging tips. I point out flawed blogging tips to correct. This is how to stop doing unintelligent things to start following smart blogging tips.
How to Build Backlinks
Publish highly detailed content.
Build relationships. Help bloggers. Ask for nothing in return.
Be consistent for 5-10 years.
Re-read the last sentence. Let the numbers sink in. I doubt the scattershot crowd I see in my spam thinks beyond 5-10 years. Most think about 5-10 days. Most think about 1-2 days because the follow-ups arrive 1-2 days after I deleted the prior spam.
I love you spammers. I love you backlink building specialists. I respect you enough to:
- point out mistakes
- address flaws
- offer corrections
The rest is on you.
