Imagine trying to run a car on sugar.
You sugar up. Fill the empty tank with granules.
After turning the ignition, the car does not start.
Why?
Combustion engine cars run on petrol not sugar. Fossil fuels. Etc.
Most backlink building strategies focus heavily on:
- manipulating strangers
- trying to get successful bloggers to link to your content with ploys, follow ups and other schemes to sweeten the backlink pot
- trades either for money or backlinks
but rarely mention publishing heavily targeted, highly detailed, in-depth content consistently.
This is like trying to run a car on sugar.
Not gonna work.
Strategies centered on *getting backlinks* and not *giving away* detailed, targeted content consistently – week after week year after year – fall apart quickly. Imagine building a mansion on a foundation of quicksand. Attempting to convince pro bloggers to link to your site is like building a skyscraper on a foundation of pudding.
You are trying to get someone to do something for you who would not do that thing for you in a million years. Follow up once. Follow up ten times. Like emailing a ghost, this process becomes futile.
Yet I see a fresh batch of spam emails daily invading my inbox using this exact strategy. Blogging is largely unconscious. People do stuff based on an unconscious script. Pausing to review the soundness of blogging strategies is how to break free of errors, struggles and general time-wasting. Before the pause you need to be aware of making this blogging mistake. That’s why I write these posts, folks.
How to Influence Pro Bloggers
Do you really want to arrest the attention span of a highly successful blogger to land trusted backlinks?
Spend the next 3-5 years of your life publishing:
- heavily targeted content (cover only one niche to establish topical authority)
- highly practical content (share as many steps as necessary to walk readers from problem to solution)
- in-depth content
- long form content (1000 to 1200 words or longer)
- clear content
- concise content
consistently. I mean writing and publishing posts weekly if not a bit more frequently.
This takes a long time because doing detailed work is not an overnight deal. But since pro bloggers followed this identical path it is the only way to snare their attention span. After popping up on their radar screen, gaining their trust may take a while. But the more pros you impress the more these individuals point credible backlinks to your blog.
Some Backlink Strategies Miss the Mark Completely
I receive a series of blogger outreach emails daily.
Every specialist wants quality backlinks from Blogging From Paradise Dot Com.
Most address me as “Blogging From Paradise Team” because few have enough time to click my About tab and learn my name. Busy bees have another 100 bloggers to send a generic pitch message to over the next 12 hours. I get it. I do not mock it but I call it like it is. Everyone has to make a living. I guide you to do it peacefully to experience greater freedom versus trading time, work and stress for money.
Big Ole’ Red Flags Popping Up
The second I see their email some big old red flags pops up in my mind:
- Why are these strangers reaching out to a stranger? Didn’t these individuals build large, loyal blogger friend networks to solidify their credibility, cement their trust and amplify their reach?
- Why aren’t pro bloggers ALREADY pointing high quality backlinks to these folk’s blogs? What’s wrong with their content? Even if these bloggers avoided networking, each would score *some* organic traffic and high quality backlinks. What gives?
- Why does their email go directly to spam if I haven’t labelled it yet? Have they annoyed *that* many seasoned bloggers?
OK; these thoughts popped up in my mind years ago. I get so many spam outreach backlink building emails now I delete ’em in 2-3 seconds then leave my inbox. Sorry but not sorry. Chasing is not the way to be free of time and location. Serving and attracting is the way to a life of freedom.
Flawed Strategies Are Flawed No Matter How Hard You Work
Following up once, twice or five times doesn’t work because a flawed strategy never works once, twice or five times. Flawed tactics do not work if you follow up ten times; every follow up lands in spam well before reaching that threshold.
Put in 12 hours daily. Still doesn’t work.
Email 100 pro bloggers daily. Still doesn’t work.
Email 1000 random bloggers daily. Perhaps 5-10 struggling bloggers with no traffic point backlinks to your blog. No quality or low quality links is like putting lipstick on a pig.
If no one reads the blog no one sees your link. Google does not reward bloggers with backlinks from blogs with no credibility, readership or clout.
I never condemn but do teach in direct if not blunt fashion. How can you spot an error until someone clearly points out the error? Admitting the mistake and following the correction are your choices. But at least someone with experience building trusted backlinks pointed out both the error and correction to nudge you in the proper direction.
Quality Content Builds Quality Backlinks
What is quality content?
Detailed, practical content covering one niche establishes blogger credibility.
The world trusts specialists.
The world deeply trusts specialists who go the extra mile.
Publishing thorough content frequently is going the extra backlink-building mile.
Any quality backlink building strategy centers on this fundamental. Heck; you may come up short with less important tactics but if you cover this one inside-out you’ll land trusted backlinks.
Instead of falling prey to failing schemes, park your rear end to write in-depth blog posts. Aim for one weekly. Do this for years. Think of these time frames. Be realistic. Slow down. Calm down. Relax.
Or make your daily donation to spam folders worldwide.
You choose.
