Running a blog with integrity establishes credibility.
Being credible feels challenging because earning trust hinges on publishing highly-detailed content consistently.
I did not find this task easy to accomplish for many years. Being prolific and detail-oriented rocketed me outside of my comfort zone.
I also had to consistently pump the brakes on promises offered through my content. Every blogger initially wants to make big promises via post titles to attract a heavy volume of readers. Wise bloggers keep their promises light and solutions robust.
Nobody can deliver on big promises as a beginner blogger. How can you? No beginner has achieved anything. How can a new blogger claim to know the secrets to driving massive blog traffic when the individual attracts two visitors daily?
Do you see what I mean?
Forget about making specific claims as a newb; each rips your fledgling credibility to shreds. Lying repels success. Being transparent attracts success slowly but surely.
Solve a simple problem with a highly practical solution.
Earn reader trust.
Drive organic traffic.
Do You Go Heavy on Promises But Light on Details?
Popular blogging guidance may be light on details and heavy on promises.
Do you want to generate thousands of page views daily?
Go heavy on details and light on promises for an extraordinary stretch of years.
Hot air lifts balloons not organic blog traffic.
Blogging Promises
I came across a blogger today.
He disputed a popular piece of blogging advice: post consistently.
What does that even mean?
Posting consistently fits dozens of potential definitions. What are you supposed to do with that?
The promise bandied about goes like this:
“Post consistently to drive organic traffic, blogging income and to ride off into the sunset as a pro blogger.”
Big promise. But what about the details?
Some bloggers break down this strategy with four or five practical tips via a blog post. Not bad. Not great either, though.
Forget bloggers riding the hype train for a moment. We all know that tactic does not drive organic traffic consistently.
Most bloggers never drill down into critical practical details for getting the job done. Feeling confused, readers bounce from blogs pronto to find someone who baby steps them from problem to solution without holding hands. Give readers a thorough solution. Respect them enough to let them take action.
Blogging promises are hot air. Anyone can make promises. Few deliver. Few bloggers go pro.
The trick is to go light on promises and heavy on offering highly detailed solutions through your blog posts. Make a clear claim with each blog post title. Follow up with an in-depth blog post stepping readers from a clear problem to a seamless solution. The rest is on them. Respect their ambition. Honor their power of choice. Put the blogging ball in their court.
I could promise you the blogging world now and offer you jack squat. How does that help you? If I make promises to get you excited but offer no practical solution to your problems it does you no good. I damage my credibility. You leave my blog with a sour puss. No one wins.
Succeeding hinges on offering detailed content not inflated hype.
Go Heavy on Details to Drive Organic Blog Traffic
OK here we go:
- cover one niche to establish topical authority
- aim for 1200 words per blog post to lower your blog bounce rate and offer readers thorough solutions
- infuse as many practical tips as necessary to step readers from problem to solution
- create titles based on one specific promise
- publish at least one post weekly to maintain relevance
- follow an aggressive distribution strategy working channels like building an email list, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blue Sky and Pinterest
Look at the bullet point list above.
I gave you a little taste of what it takes to drive organic blog traffic.
You know:
- specifically what to do to drive organic blog traffic
- why doing these things drives organic blog traffic
I certainly drill down deeper for a full blog post on the topic but you get the point.
Doesn’t that bullet point list look different than offering the guidance, “Post consistently to drive organic traffic”?
The Blogging Devil Is in the Details
Smart content links all steps necessary to get the job done.
The blogging devil is in the details but it demands a quiet mind to share all details required.
Our minds appear to be like monkeys jumping from branch to branch.
How do you quiet the mind to share all necessary details?
- meditate for 20 minutes daily
- practice deep breathing for 10 minutes daily
- spend time in nature every single day
- shut off all devices for at least 8-12 hours daily
Did you notice something?
I gave you four more practical tips to get the job done.
Do those things consistently despite the noisy mind’s objections. Following the last practical tip triggers wicked psychological attachments to a phone and laptop. Never mistake a communication medium for the source of your success. Mind is everything. Practice to develop skills. Fire up the phone and laptop for a stretch daily as practical tools for helping readers.
Publish Only What You Achieved
Making big promises is ethical if you:
- achieved the specific goal
- publish highly-detailed content to back up your epic claim
Did you achieve it?
Can you explain in great detail how to achieve it?
Feel free to make heady claims.
But don’t be surprised to attract readers who want something for nothing. This is par for the course.
This is also why I guide you to go light on promises but heavy on the deets. Solve a simple problem suffered by many with a spectacular post appreciated by most readers.
Consider it to be over delivering. The solution more than covers the title-promise offered to readers.
Conclusion
Look closely at your blog post titles.
Do you make simple promises without going overboard?
Study your blog posts.
Do you go above and beyond to offer readers a highly-detailed solution.
Make modest promises but go all out on creating in-depth blog posts.
Give the readers what they want to drive a steady flow of organic blog traffic.
