Traffic is the lifeblood of every blog.
Driving quality blog traffic positions you to:
- build a loyal community
- earn granite-like credibility
- grow a thriving online business
Freedom seekers hellbent on leaving their 9-5 job need traffic – and quite a bit of it – to go pro.
Part time bloggers intend on supplementing their income also need a steady volume of quality traffic to reach their goal.
Sans traffic, you basically run a cyber diary.
The Challenge
Getting traffic can be tough in the beginning.
Tips fly at you from every direction. Making matters worse, bloggers often contradict each other. Information overload follows, with blogging crosscurrents confusing the stuffing out of new and/or struggling veteran bloggers.
Most just want to blog about whatever’s on their mind.
Others attempt to game Google by volume publishing a dizzying number of thin posts.
Both strategies implode sooner than later.
Why?
Both break the cardinal rule of blog traffic: getting traffic is a serious skill hinging on a great deal of learning, practice and mastery.
Sear this idea onto your mind. Treat blogging seriously. Commit to mastering the skill of driving traffic.
Like any thing which the world tends to value, you get really good at it through many years of diligent practice combined with continual learning and improvement.
Let’s commence with the learning phase, shall we?
1: Publish Detailed Updates to Facebook Profiles Pages and Groups
Publish thorough content to your Facebook profile, Facebook Groups and Facebook Pages to draw organic blog traffic.
For example, I currently publish a detailed blogging tip on most days to:
- my Facebook profile
- Facebook Groups related to blogging tips
- Facebook Pages related to blogging tips
I created and run 2 Facebook Groups and 3 Facebook Pages related to blogging.
Per tip #9 below, I predominantly publish unique content to each group and page outside of perhaps 1-2 identical updates daily. Leverage identical updates across these channels lightly and publish new content frequently for the best results.
Cover pressing topics in your niche. Set aside 10-20 minutes to publish a thorough update. Add as many tips, steps or reasons as necessary to offer folks a rich solution to their problems.
Long-form social media updates like these tend to attract committed folks who appreciate the content then hop scotch over to your blog.
2: Publish Detailed Updates to LinkedIn Profiles and Groups
Create and publish in-depth updates to groups on LinkedIn related to your blogging niche.
Targeted traffic flows to your blog via these rich resources.
I spend 10 to 20 minutes writing or dictating helpful blogging tips. After editing the update I publish it to a collection of LinkedIn Groups covering blogging tips.
LI users gradually flows from these updates to my blog based on the good old fashioned, practical tips I share through this content.
I run 2 LinkedIn blogging tips themed groups.
3: Publish Videos to Threads
Publish practical videos to Threads.
Drive quality traffic through the medium.
Share helpful tips related to your blogging niche. Aim for relatively short form content to stay within the video length limit for the network.
Access a lesser-used blog traffic source.
4: Publish Short Form Videos to Facebook Twitter and YouTube
Record short form videos for byte-sized, practical content morsels.
Publish each to:
- YouTube
- Facebook (profile, groups and pages)
to drive organic blog traffic.
Vary lengths. Aim for 7 seconds to 1 minute.
See what tends to bring optimal returns. Do more of what works and less of what does not work.
5: Comment Genuinely on Blogs within Your Niche
Publish genuine comments on blogs from your niche.
Read posts. Share your genuine thoughts. Add details. Personalize comments to make a positive impact.
Comment patiently and persistently.
Direct and indirect traffic flows through comments. Resonant readers click your link to drive direct traffic. Blogging buddies which flow your way through authentic comments drop backlinks to your blog via interviews, guest post invites and quick mentions for indirect traffic.
6: Answer Questions Related to Your Niche on Twitter and Facebook
Follow hashtags and keywords related to your niche.
Join groups related to your niche.
Answer questions in detail.
Draw happy social media users to your blog.
I answer questions related to blogging via:
- Twitter @replies
- Twitter DMs
- Messages on Facebook
- Groups on Facebook
- Groups on LinkedIn
Happy social media users resonant with my answers visit Blogging From Paradise.
Hang out where your ideal readers congregate. Answer their questions thoroughly. Drive quality blog traffic.
7: Update Old Blog Posts
Update old blog posts to be timely.
Delete dated content. Strip dead links. Trash any content no longer relevant.
For example, deleting references to Google Plus, Blab or MySpace makes sense. Trashing content related to guest blogging for links, gaming Google with Ezinearticles or volume posting thin content to gain rank seems logical because readers (and Google) want current content.
Blogging From Paradise tends to reach page 1 of Google for updated posts. The algorithm seems to prefer aged links here. Trashing irrelevant content and replacing with timely content for these posts moves a handful to page 1, if not position 1.
Update posts every 3-6 months for a steady flow of organic blog traffic.
8: Automate Social Media Updates to Grow a Global Audience
Attract global traffic.
Automate social media updates to gain exposure in all time zones.
Automating some updates to social media draws readers from all over the world to you.
For example, publishing updates around the clock whenever I’m living in the Western hemisphere attracts readers to Blogging From Paradise from:
- India
- Bangladesh
- Australia
- Nigeria
among other spots.
Note; engage manually and publish some updates manually to maintain a genuine presence.
Social media followers tend to ignore fully automated profiles because one cannot genuinely be social via bot.
9: Create and Run a Volume of Pages and Groups (with 1 Important Disclaimer)
Open a collection of:
- Facebook Groups
- Facebook Pages
- LinkedIn Groups
But publish unique content most of the time to drive organic traffic and to also avoid potential violations.
For example, opening 10 blogging tips themed groups only to publish identical updates to each group 100% of the time makes little sense. Eventually, either network rules or observant followers prevent anyone from seeing these updates by looking past the content. Sharing identical content cheapens said content across a range of channels.
Publish new, unique content to each group with most updates.
Drive quality blog traffic by being genuine.
Put in work to reap the traffic rewards.
