Why Do Customers Buy Blogging Products?

I checked my promotions tab a few moments ago.

I sold another eBook.

Why did I sell the eBook?

I sold something that a specific reader found to be valuable.

The reader traded money for the value.

The end result?

One sale.

Why do customers buy blogging products?

I don’t usually focus on the monetizing aspect of blogging. Content and connections generate blogging income. The process is not terribly difficult to understand but most of us bloggers struggle at times to earn coin.

Why is that?

Unconscious blocks to money usually block clear thinking in regards to practical monetizing strategies.

Unless you were born into big bucks or your parents were psychologically detached from money, thinking about this topic causes headaches. People just don’t want to think about it.  Mindless monetizing follows. The results are never pleasant to observe.

Doing a deep dive into the thought process is important. Thinking through your monetizing strategy sets off the blog monetizing light bulb.

Keep these ideas in mind.

Trust

Customers buy from trusted bloggers.

Bloggers earn trust by:

  • publishing highly detailed blog posts to step readers from a specific problem to tailored solution
  • selling practical premium content to empower, inspire and/or solve reader problems
  • being highly thorough in all that they do; we can call this going the extra blogging mile

I accrued one sale for this eBook yesterday:

7 Things That Inspired Me to Go from Scared Security Guard to Smiling Island Hopper eBook

How did I generate that idea?

I asked our tribe for specific feedback.

Tribe Feedback

A number of years ago, I asked my tribe a question:

“What topic should I cover with my next eBook for sale?

A few readers offered this feedback:

“Write about how you went from security guard to island hopping pro blogger. What struggles did you overcome? How did you hurdle over obstacles? Please explain how you did it so we can do it.

I tackled this topic because readers told me to:

  • cover it
  • write it for them to buy it

Does it get any simpler than that? I don’t think so.

Customers buy helpful stuff that they told bloggers to create for them.

Do not bother selling anything unless readers told you explicitly to create it and sell it.

Otherwise, making money through your blog becomes impossible.

Sell what readers tell you to sell.

This is why readers buy blogging products.

Heartfelt Creation

After getting reader feedback, I set up an outline.

I considered seven inspirational ideas goading me to transition from being a frightened security guard to bold(ish) island hopper.

I proceeded to write from my heart. I did the eBook raw. No filters. No uber polished finish, minus obvious editing.

I imagined myself sitting down across from you over a fireside chat to write the sucker.

Customers deeply appreciate heartfelt content because our center connects us.

You can tell when someone bullshits you with lies.

You know when someone tells you the truth from their heart even if the message seems a bit rough around the edges. Yes; my online course for sale and eBooks for sale are rough around the edges. The content? Top shelf. Practical? Hell yeah. But all I offer is rough and ready.

You know what else is rough around the edges?

Freaking life, dude!

I receive various forms of feedback.

No one has ever said I am a phony.

Loyal Blogging From Paradise readers – and customers – respect me for it.

Practical Value

Customers buy stuff that gives them something valuable.

Some desire solutions to problems.

Some crave inspiration.

Perhaps some thirst for entertainment.

Give readers something truly helpful.

Some of my premium content:

  • gives readers a clear guide for building high quality backlinks
  • offers readers resources for becoming full time bloggers

The eBook I sold yesterday yields inspiration.

Customers learn how I went from feeling trapped in a highly depressing job to being a full-time blogger over a long, arduous, thrilling but uncomfortable journey.

I recall one of my first customers of this ebook – who has since passed away – noting how she loved following my experience because my story inspired her to conquer her fears. She was a sweet lady who influenced her tribe before transitioning. I deeply valued her support.

Don’t scrimp. Put it all out there. Include all the steps necessary. Wear your heart on your sleeve.

But keep things simple. Make premium content easy to understand.

Transparent Resource

My online course for sale takes about 3 hours or so to complete.

But this is just the beginning.

Re-taking the online course again (a few times) is the only way to let these ideas cement themselves in your mind.

I sell a transparent course because it includes all steps necessary to land the highest quality backlinks. That’s a lot of tips! This is why it takes 3 hours of your time to review the tips.

Getting featured on the most famous sites in the world does not entail following advice from a one sentence tweet.

Genuine customers know this, not being deluded.

Sell something highly thorough. Offer rich resources. Invest days or weeks to:

  • research
  • create
  • edit
  • publish

the product.

Doing the job right takes a lot of time.

Put in the time.

Price Reasonably But with Posture

The pier guard to island hopper eBook is $10 USD.

How did I find that eBook price point?

What would someone pay to put struggles behind them to live the life of their dreams?

$10 sounds reasonable but posturing for a PDF guide designed to reach that clear goal.

I vetted that $10 USD price with my:

  • Blogging From Paradise domain name (hundreds of practical blog posts)
  • Ryan Biddulph name (established through my generosity, genuine nature, earned cred and brand building)

I beefed up the eBook by dissecting seven clear ideas.

Everyone reading this post has paid $10 USD for a meal we all eventually poop out. Sorry but it is true.

The PDF guide is not something you consume and poop.

The eBook – as all blogging products should be – is the detailed, practical gift that keeps on giving.

Price products appropriately. I will not charge $50 for an eBook. This is not a full course. This is a PDF guide.

But price with posture to leave the cyber sewer.

I priced one of my eBooks for $3.99 a long time ago. Someone complained about its lack of value; the person said I should price it at 99 cents.

ALERT! ALERT!

When someone who cannot afford to lose 4 dollars suggests pricing an eBook at 1 buck to fit within their limited budget…..raise your product prices immediately or you will forever struggle to:

  • go full-time
  • gain credibility in prospering blogging circles
  • break out of poverty-stricken customer circles

I love you guys. I condemn no one. I too struggled awfully for years. I get it.

No one earns a full time income with a targeted customer based who cannot afford to spend 4 dollars on an eBook. Sorry; not gonna happen.

I stopped struggling by:

  • telling the truth to those with ears to hear it
  • raising my prices to enter a prospering customer base

The bargain basement approach works for Walmart not individual bloggers.

Offer premium products.

Charge a premium to attract prospering, committed customers who appreciate credible, established bloggers.

Conclusion

Making money by selling products is a skill.

Follow the fundamentals above consistently.

Get clear on receiving money for the service you offer.
