Bloggers typically view blogging like a job.
But does that make sense? Do you blog to tie yourself to a laptop and phone? Do you want to trade time for money? Didn’t you blog to move away from that world?
I was let go from my security guard job a long time ago because the company downsized me. The last thing I wanted to do was scramble back to a job. I tired of trading time for money. I got sick of working 18 hour days. I also felt disgusted with getting double shifts pushed on me at midnight. When it happened once or twice I appreciated the overtime but working 16 hours from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. made me begin to hate my job.
I decided to make my blog a passive income generating business. Or you could say I framed my blog as an asset.
How do you get to this point?
Develop blogging posture. Exude confidence. Build your blog into a trusted resource which works for you around the clock.
Trust yourself. Believe in your blog. Work it patiently to allow it to work for you.
Stop chasing people.
Build an asset.
Stop working a blogging job.
Make the Mindset Shift
Admittedly, making this mindset shift feel scary at first because you and I seem conditioned to think like an employee. The world is built that way unfortunately because we exist under the illusion of fear. Some call it a matrix. Others view it as the world being corrupted. But it is just fear in your mind. Fear is your responsibility to face, feel and look past. Understand this truth and you will run circles around pretty much everyone in the world although the goal is certainly not to be in competition but to rather co-create in abundance.
The thing that really got me going was remembering how much life sucked when I traded time for money. I absolutely despised some of those double shift days. I felt like I was dying in a way because at midnight when I just wanted to get home to sleep for 8 to 10 hours I had to stay at the job for another 8 hours and lose another night’s sleep.
Why the frick was I doing it? I did it for money. I did it for an illusory means of exchange. Money seems practical in the world but when you really think about the millions of ways trades occur it is bizarre to trade so much of this experience just for illusory numbers on a screen.
Let Your Blog Work for You
I gradually decided to allow my blog to work for me. First I worked on passive income channels and active income channels. Coaching (active income) seemed attractive as I gained some blogging experience. But I began to trade time for money again. Been there. Done that. Not good for me. I looked into writing and selling eBooks by going to self-publishing route (passive income). I also created and sold courses (passive income). Both worked nicely for me because each fit my preferred income model.
I still had to create ample content to drive organic traffic and customers to and through my blog. Yet I did that in my own time. That feels way different than having double shifts sprung on you at midnight when you just want to go home and pass out until tomorrow. That also feels way different requiring your bodily presence for every penny you earn. Most people take that route which is okay I guess but it was never for me. I always thought it odd that people traded their time for something which appears to be practical but ultimately is one of many ways to trade.
You don’t get that time back but you can certainly trade through many different ways and means.
Anyway, perceive your blog as an asset which works for you. Publish highly detailed content for your singular reader. Solve their problems with your long form blog posts. Create practical content for readers to use for their benefit. Do these things consistently. Build your blog into an asset which drives organic income and blogging business for you around the clock.
What About the Time Element?
Yeah I know by now. The question on your mind is one concerning time.
You want to know how long it takes to generate income through this passive method.
No one can offer you a reliable answer because every human being has all types of mental blocks to money. Yet as a general ballpark figure, publishing content for many thousands of hours through your blog and off-site channels typically drives organic traffic and blogging income to the point of going full-time.
Perceive those thousands of hours as an investment in your freedom. Did you plan to be around for those thousands of hours in the first place? Either you choose to waste those thousands of hours or invest the time in building a blogging asset which works for you around the clock. Once the blogging asset generates passive income you are free to do what you want when you want to do it where you want to do it. This is the phenomena of making money while you sleep or do pretty much anything.
You can profit while you work to create content, or while you sleep, or while you are out to eat with your family or while you are circling the globe. Does the thousands of hours sound like a waste of time now or an investment in your peace of mind and worldly freedom? Most humans have absolutely zero vision. People live in survival mode on a day to day basis. Breaking free of this mental malady takes courage. But if the alternative is subjugation why wouldn’t you inject a bit of courage into your mind and break free from the matrix?
