Where can you break all of the blogging rules and still win?
I fired up my Chromebook a few moments ago.
I checked my email.
I checked my comments.
Light day for both.
I then thought about social media. I considered LinkedIn too. I thought about my email list.
What came to mind?
I thought about all the rules, regulations and algorithmic machinations I need to honor in order to gain a little bit of exposure through each channel.
I cannot break any of the rules or else I will get suspended. I may even get banned. Trust me; this has happened before.
I may be able to bend the rules. But not for long. The algorithm is strong.
What About Email?
Don’t be so quick to think that your list is rock solid. Perhaps it seems rock solid if you do not live in United States. But we have plenty of laws here regarding email marketing, privacy and all that jazz. I have to tap dance on razor blades for each campaign I send out.
What is a blogger to do?
I’ll tell you.
I can explain today how to break all of the blogging rules and still win.
When I say all of the blogging rules I mean most traditionally held rules, regulations and all that jazz binding you.
We all have to do these things. None of us owns any of these websites.
But you can break all the blogging rules and win if you know where to do it.
Where is that?
Your blog.
Break Blogging Rules and Win
I fired up my back office to write this post a few moments ago.
No rules behind me here.
I set it up clearly how I want to in order to maximize organic blog traffic (aka the lifeblood of all blogs).
I own the content. I own the site. I own everything here. I set the rules. I establish regulations. I set the algorithm. It’s all mine. I have 100% power here. Let that sink in for a moment. Few bloggers think about this carefully because they’re so busy subjugating to everyone off site.
Most bloggers bow to Google but Google stifles you with rules.
Your blog is yours. Do whatever you want there. You don’t have to do anything special. You don’t have to add images or optimize or do any of that stuff if you don’t want to.
Adding images to posts can be helpful as well as optimizing posts for Google. But billions of human beings find billions of other human beings through millions of other channels other than Google. Some people like pictures. Some people like words.
Prioritize Your Blog
This is the beauty of making your blog the most important piece of real estate online for you. You run the show. You have full control of your blog. You can make it however you want to make it to connect with highly targeted readers. You can win by making the world play by your blog’s rules. Going off-site is required to bridge the gap between your blog and the outside world. But a one-of-a-kind blog appeals to off-site users like no other. Play their rules to direct users to a blog they love. That’s how to play the blogging game intelligently.
Admittedly, this is a radically different mindset than most professional bloggers or of course amateur bloggers too. I struggled with confidence issues before thinking this way. I had the posture of an earthworm negligent of it’s core exercises.
I did a little bit on my blog. I did a lot off site trying to get people to visit my blog.
That didn’t work out too well because these sites had all types of rules. I wanted to do something creative but there was a rule against that. I wanted to do something helpful but there was a rule against that. I wanted to reach more people but there was a rule against that. I engaged people genuinely and got banned from sites. I created genuine updates and got suspended on other sites.
I’m not blaming people who own these sites for victimizing me. I’m just explaining the logic of creating a post like this. I want to help you break all of the blogging rules and still win.
What Is the Blogging Version of Winning?
The blogging version of winning is succeeding according to your goals on your own terms.
Driving a steady volume of highly targeted traffic and generating consistent blogging income based on how you want to blog is one version of winning.
Going pro even though you move away from traditional advice is winning.
Not tap dancing on razor blades for algorithms to live your dreams is winning.
Writing posts like a human not a robot following dozens of rules is winning.
Not Too Cool for School Bloggers
Make no mistake about it; breaking rules is not a cool thing. I don’t want you to be a renegade to look cool. I don’t want you to step away from the herd to be different. I want you to win by doing something from your divine center. I want you to go pro by running a heart centered business.
The non-negotiable is being truly helpful for one targeted reader. No successful blogger breaks that rule. If you do break that rule you won’t get organic traffic or blogging income. That’s one of the fundamentals. You have to do it.
But how you do it is up to you.
Enter blogging.
Or enter the idea of running everything to and through your blog first and foremost.
Why Spend Most Time Jailing Your Blogging Self?
I considered doing a few things this morning off-site. But then I thought about all the rules I had to follow to do it.
I started writing this post because I don’t have to follow any rules here.
I only need to be truly helpful for you.
I can dictate this post via the old Samsung phone.
I could write it with my fingers and Chromebook.
Who cares?
As long as I help you retire to a life of island hopping through smart blogging I have done my job.
I do not win by putting myself in a box off site.
I win by building Blogging From Paradise Dot Com without rules or regulations holding me down.
I totally understand why offsite channels need to enact strict rules. The bigger you get the more control you need to exercise. This is why governments are heavy-handed. Laws exist because billions of human beings tend to make a few who are insane.
Ditto for social media.
But you have a blog.
You set the rules there.
Your growth potential is unlimited on your blog for that very reason.
You have unlimited power through your blog.
