Nashville Tennessee
I saw “The King” today in Nashville Tennessee.
OK; I did not actually see Elvis Presley. I did observe a life-sized statue of the icon as I strolled down Broadway in the Music City.
Elvis is on music’s version of Mouth Rushmore with the likes of Michael Jackson and the Beetles. He became larger than life.
Case in point; mention his name today (about 50 years after his passing) around the world and most folks know exactly who he is.
The King of Rock and Roll teaches you a few clear blogging lessons.
Stop being a Blogging Hound Dog, crying all the time about your traffic struggles.
Blogging doesn’t need to be your Heartbreak Hotel.
Don’t Be Cruel to your blogging self.
Follow these tips.
1: Add Flair
Elvis emanated flair. From his trademark sideburns, to wild gesticulations, The King oozed colorfulness which made a firm impress on rock and roll.
Add flair to your blog. Fear not adding some hot sauce to your strategy. Build something visually appealing. Publish color-filled content.
Stand out in a positive way.
Become memorable.
For example, I tackled this topic. No one Googles “How does Elvis Presley teach you to become a better blogger” yet I chose to draw analogies between The King and blogging.
I am flashy like that.
Try it yourself.
You will have fun.
Readers will remember you too.
2: Pioneer Your Niche
Elvis pioneered his niche.
Hell; he became the King of Rock and Roll.
How?
He thought and performed radically differently than most singers up to that point.
Elvis learned from legendary African American singers to inject their soulful style into his work.
This icon broke a wide range of seeming “rules” on his way to superstardom.
Pioneer your blogging niche. Do things from the heart to do ’em differently. Take a different angle. Explore a different perspective.
Succeed by wandering off the beaten blogging path.
You have a special gift to share with readers. Find it and share it.
I dove into mindset tips for bloggers versus doing the drone, mindless thing of only writing about what Google spits out. Google is a strong traffic source. Yet the world needs more than the 10 millionth blogger who worships The Google gods, basing everything on keywords.
Be a blazing pioneer not a follower content to remain in the blogging herd.
3: Make Your Nerves Work for You
Elvis shook his legs due to his rhythm and his nerves. Women loved it; most screamed the moment he began to shake, rattle and roll.
Consider how perhaps the most iconic move in rock and roll began as a nervous tick. His anxiety helped to make him a sex symbol.
Let blogging fears fuel your energy in challenging moments of stress. I do not suggest blogging from fear-based, scarcity-heavy desperation. But let some anxiety motivate you to stay up late or wake early to get the job done. Do you fear being different? Good. Use that fear to write a controversial post even if it means being criticized for your genuine take on a subject.
Fear proves to be a powerful prod during some dark times in the blogging doldrums.
I churned out the work during lean stretches in part because I was terrified to lose after giving blogging so much. Of course this is not the appropriate driver yet in an imperfect world I used fear to jet pack outside of my blogging comfort zone.
That’s the way blogging – and life – works sometimes.
4: Train Your Mind….Or Else!
Elvis suffered horribly as his star hit its peak.
He became addicted to drugs.
He also experienced awful health issues.
Unfortunately, this was a classic case of a transcendent talent who had it all and nothing, simultaneously. Elvis had everything the world offered save a peaceful, calm, joyous, serene, fun-loving mind to:
- think clearly
- live abundantly
- remain healthy
- avoid the pain affixed to suffering from severe unconscious fear
Look closely at entertainers who punish the living hell out of themselves with drugs, alcohol and bodily illness because each is 100% externally focused. The list goes on and on.
Elvis was certainly no exception.
Looking within consistently would have goaded him to follow love, peace and serenity. He could have serenely enjoyed worldly success and perfect physical health since all the world is a projection of the mind.
Bloggers; train your mind.
Thrive from within.
Do the blogging work from a relaxed, abundant mindset. Enjoy your success. Avoid blogging struggles.
Blog with posture. Be confident. Blog confidently.
Practical Tips
- meditate for 30 minutes daily
- surround yourself with uplifting, compassionate, successful bloggers
- take full responsibility for your mind and life (including any blogging failure)
Conclusion
I enjoy drawing analogies between traveling and blogging from time to time.
Readers dig my comparisons. You told me so.
Teaching through analogy makes blogging lessons easy to understand.
I Can’t Stop Falling in Love with Blogging.
I admit it.
I hope you feel the same way.
Learn from The King!
“Elvis has left the building.”
