Backlink requests find my gmail spam folder daily.
Why?
Few bloggers know the primary skill to develop for landing quality backlinks.
Bloggers attempt to manipulate seasoned veterans. Newbies sweeten the blogging pot with enticing offers. Some bandy about the opportunity to receive a free blog post. That’s cool. Others promise me the opportunity to save time. Who turns down a free blog post? Why would I look past the opportunity to save time? I am a fairly busy blogging guy.
I trust none of these individuals. I never give the keys of my blog to someone who I do not trust.
None of these bloggers write skillfully enough to score quality backlinks. Why would you email strangers if you wrote with clarity? Skilled writers generate passive, quality backlinks around the clock.
Writing is far and away the most ignored backlink-building skill.
Pros teach beginner bloggers how to:
- pitch
- convince
- coerce
- follow up
- bond
- stress benefits
- make pros an offer no pro can refuse
but none correlate writing skillfully to build highly trusted backlinks.
Odd, right?
Bloggers search for externals.
I look within.
Bloggers seek opportunities off-site.
I create opportunities by writing for my blog.
But that’s just me.
Everyone is entitled to take or leave my approach.
I found it simple to focus on what I can control and to let go all else.
Why Is Writing Important?
Anyone who links to Blogging From Paradise does so because I can write.
Hemingway I am not. Yeah I get it; nobody received a news alert on that one.
But I write how I write. No one else crafts content quite like me. I am not special. Far from it. I write in my own style. Writing genuinely makes me stand out. Let’s face it. Most blog like parrots. Fitting in seems safe. Standing out seems dangerous.
Backlinks point to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com because established bloggers believe in my blog. Bloggers believe in my content because I wrote my ass off for 18 years. I practice writing daily. Typically I hit 1000 to 2000 words each day. Sometimes I write 3000 words daily.
Writing consistently influenced me to become prolific. I publish content daily for stretches. I always publish at least one blog post weekly. Every blog post spans 1200 plus words. I churn out content like hotcakes because I practiced writing like the dickens for years.
Quality Backlinks Big Up Your Blog
Anyone who points a link to your blog believes your content to be:
- credible
- truly helpful
- created by a skilled blogger
Bloggers put their reputation on the line with each backlink directing readers to offsite sources.
Do you think bloggers make this decision casually?
I rarely link out these days. If I consider dropping a backlink I never make that choice lightly.
I instantly know if a blogger writes their rear off or barely taps a key on their lappy. Truly helpful content mirrors the commitment of a diligent blogger. Thin content reveals someone too lazy to practice writing consistently.
Write.
How to Practice Writing to Score Quality Backlinks
Follow these tips:
- write 500-1000 words daily
- write online or offline; put in the repetitions however you choose
- cover any topic offline to flex your writing muscles
- cover your niche online (of course)
- writing long form blog posts (1000 to 1200 words or more) is a simple way to reach your daily word count
- write in quiet to let ideas flow freely (reduce distractions by shutting the door and turning off your phone)
Never Run Away from Writing Practice
Whether you resist this post or not, a sneaky temptation arises.
Google “how to get backlinks”.
Every top result on page 1 focuses heavily on outreach.
How does emailing strangers influence your writing?
Technically, outreach emails factor into daily writing practice. I see the benefit there.
But who sees outreach emails? One human being scans the email in some cases. No human beings see the email in other cases.
I do not like that return on investment.
Blog posts generate backlinks effectively. Pitch emails trade time for money. Blog content serves as an asset freeing you from time and location. Hanging over your inbox to email strangers ties you to time and location.
Live your life how you wish.
Readers usually follow my blog to be free from time and location.
What else happens to bloggers focused on outreach over writing diligently?
Over-reliance on outreach not blog content torpedoes your backlink building strategy.
Successful backlink-builders publish blog content consistently. Writing frequently in your backoffice makes you prolific. No blogger gets around that one.
Writing emails is not writing blog posts. Google owns gmail. You own your blog. Relying on blogger outreach is not writing blog posts. Wise bloggers focus on home base first and foremost. Even compassionate bloggers still have their own agenda. Sorry; your backlink pitch does not typically factor into their agenda. No blogger woke up today thinking:
“God I cannot wait to get cold pitched backlink building opportunities by 20 bloggers using the same strategy!”
Yet outreach-obsessed bloggers believe some pros think this way.
Sarcasm – however biting – wakes you up. I teach alert blogging students.
Writing blog posts is the best way to build trusted backlinks.
However enticing your outreach pitch, it pales in comparison to publishing your next detailed blog post as a backlink-generating tactic.
What About Off-Site Strategies?
Off-site content bridges the gap between your blog and the outside world.
Pitch successful bloggers honey-laden backlink opportunities.
Create content for:
- X
- Blue Sky
Guest post.
Drop genuine blog comments.
Work these channels. Be seen. Position yourself to score sweet links.
But prioritize writing blog posts.
Make that your key takeaway from this blog post.

I considered turning it in tonight. I did some serious cardio in the Sierra Nevada mountains today.
But I had to write this post before hitting the sack.
I cannot control how other bloggers think. Certainly I cannot force my blog into their agenda.
