Thousands upon thousands of bloggers attempt to pitch high level bloggers link exchange opportunities.
The thinking goes like this:
- a struggling veteran, green beginner or blogger outreach specialist offers an experienced, pro blogger the opportunity to trade links
- the trade involves the pitching party offering a backlink on their blog for a backlink on the blog of a professional blogger
- the link exchange sounds like a reasonable trade for the pitching blogger
However, link exchanges with high level bloggers never work.
I intend to stress this point to dissuade struggling veteran bloggers, new bloggers and blogger outreach specialists from engaging in this practice.
Why would you waste time, energy and work when you fully understand that this strategy never works?
Here’s why it does not work: landing backlinks from high level bloggers requires a high level of skill, exposure and credibility based on year’s worth of practice.
Asking a super successful blogger to trade links requires no skill, exposure and credibility. All it requires is having the ability to email a stranger.
Asking a highly successful blogger to trade links neve works because you cannot get something (a highly coveted backlink) for nothing (a link from a largely unknown blogger offered via a stranger from a cold email).
Do not take the “nothing” word personally, guys.
I applaud all bloggers, from newbies, to struggling veterans, to seasoned pros.
I love your collective hustle.
But being truthful is the easiest, quickest and simplest way to reverse mistakes and to succeed.
Why Would a Pro Link to an Unknown Commodity?
Imagine drawing 50 visitors daily to your relatively unknown blog.
Picture pitching a seasoned pro with 10,000 visitors daily on their respected, authority, leading blog.
Why would a pro who worked for years to build a high traffic, niche resource give a backlink to a relatively unknown blogger – who they do not know or trust – with a small number of visitors daily? When this blogger is an untrusted stranger, why would a high level blogger put their reputation, their years of work, and their credibility on the line for a stranger who blindly pitched the professional blogger?
This strategy makes no sense.
This tactic does not involve a fair trade.
This technique does not help the seasoned, experienced, established blogger in any way.
Thinking through this common method for about 2 minutes would compel you to never pitch a high level blogger a link exchange again.
Pro Blogging Is Not Charity
Unfortunately for pitching bloggers, professional blogging is not charity.
Desperately pleading for a pro to trade links does not guilt them into giving you a link.
If anything, begging puts your email into the spam folder.
Pro bloggers run credible businesses. Serious businesses depend on building trusted blogging resources. Respected bloggers do not link to non-credible blogs because you cannot gain trust by pointing readers to untrusted resources.
Imagine if this Strategy Actually Worked
No blogs would be credible if this approach actually worked.
All bloggers would link to failing blogs run by strangers, destroying their credibility in the process.
No blogger would get ahead because linking to low value blogs would pull everyone down.
Even worse, linking to any old blog via thoughtless exchanges would confuse readers and basically undermine the credibility of blogging in general.
Why do top blogs command respect?
High level pros master their craft over years to publish stupendous, thorough resources linking to other sensational, detailed resources.
Blogging would become a joke if bloggers traded links with anyone breathing.
How Do You Get Featured on Famous Blogs?
I created and sell an in-depth online course to guide you to get featured on world famous blogs.
Check it out here:
How to Get Featured on World Famous Blogs
Everything starts with having fun with the blogging process.
Having fun fuels you for the long, sometimes challenging blogging journey because doing so makes the work the reward.
I then explain in the course how doing mindset work prepares you mentally for landing these features. Being strong-minded and posturing alerts you to a blogging wake up call: links on high level blogs are earned after years of work.
Writing diligently is the next step. World famous bloggers write skillfully and only link to skilled writers who master their craft.
I will not give you a full outline of the online course here but you get the idea of some preliminary steps to take to get backlinks from the blogging big dawgs.
Enjoying the blogging process, having the right mindset and practicing your writing form a granite-like foundation for gaining links from pros. As you follow these steps you will be bonding with pros and publishing thorough blog posts to pop up on the radar screen of professional bloggers.
Reverse Your Mindset to Move in the Opposite Direction
A high volume of bloggers will spend much of today trying to exchange links with pros.
Being unsuccessful, most will wonder why the approach does not work.
Reversing your mindset lets wonder dissolve into understanding.
Instead of trying to get something valuable (a high level backlink) for giving little (a low level backlink) you will reverse your thinking to give something valuable (fun-loving, abundant-minded, diligent practice combined with genuine blogger outreach and detailed blog posts) to gradually get the trust of highly successful bloggers.
Patiently gaining trust from pros establishes relationships with these head blogging honchos. Some point high quality backlinks to your blog organically.
Organic Backlinks Are the Only Genuinely Valuable Backlinks
Truly valuable backlinks are:
- organic
- based on your skills
- based on your influential exposure
- based on your credibility
- centered on your merit
Respected bloggers who link to you because they love your work give you valuable backlinks.
Inorganic links are based on inauthentic payments like links or money; none are genuine, honest or truthful because the link is only based on receiving a payment or link not because the link points to a skilled blogger who publishes detailed, credible blog posts.
If someone links to you only because you linked to them, no vetting process, research or thoughtfulness went into the exchange.
Inorganic linking is largely worthless because linking for any reason other than the value of the post and the skills of the blogger generally points readers to value-less posts and unskilled bloggers.
Good luck trying to become successful littering your blog with value-less links pointing to unskilled bloggers.
Conclusion
Backlinks from high level bloggers are earned after many years of mindful, generous, genuine work.
Develop serious blogging skills to nab serious backlinks organically.
Ditch the link exchange strategy to save yourself many headaches, struggles and failures.
Pros link to bloggers who earned it.
