I have a social media secret for you.
Shhhh….
Come in closer.
Uncovering this secret changes your social media strategy; at least in most cases.
I experienced success after following this simple tip diligently.
What Is the Social Media Secret for Bloggers?
Talk to social media users via:
- genuine comments
- genuine messages through the inbox
- detailed comments
- personalized comments
- detailed messages through the inbox
Consistently drop authentic comments replying to updates from other users. Comment 5-10 times daily. Make each comment count. No cheating. No shortcuts. No 2 word deals. No rushing. No hurrying. No forcing.
Drop detailed comments to hit the mark. Some users read the reply. Some followers see the reply.
Something neat happens.
People who appreciate your comment:
- click to your profile
- click to the blog link on your profile
- click through to your blog
- read a blog post or five
- buy your online course
- buy your eBooks
- refer the online course and/or eBooks to their tribe (referral blog traffic and referral business)
- invite you to submit a guest post for them
But something else typically happens.
Appreciative social media users do not visit your blog. Yet your friendship grows. Bonds form. The folks love your genuine comments. But it is not time to check out your blog. So what? Who cares? Bonds strengthen. Friendships manifest.
What happens tomorrow? Perhaps the blogger visits your blog. Or maybe the blogger visits your blog next week. Maybe the blogger shares your latest blog post to Facebook. Five of their Facebook friends click through to your blog. Social media blog traffic for the win. One of those folks refers the blog post to forty of their Facebook friends. Ten of those friends click through to your blog. Referral social media blog traffic for the win.
Comment Consistently
What is the downside to this approach?
None, save dropping genuine comments consistently. Admittedly, this is no easy feat. Yet it is do-able. Genuine social media commenting campaigns are difficult to work but do-able. Anyone can publish authentic comments. Few do because bloggers resist indirect traffic tactics. We want to drop a link to drive direct blog traffic. Social media traffic usually works differently. Billionaires keep people onsite. Billionaires try not to send people offsite to your blog. No bueno for them. Billionaires remain billionaires by building their cyber real estate not yours.
Links usually get ignored by the algorithm. Genuine comments do not. People value genuine comments. Engaging bloggers get noticed on social media. Be a comment lounge lizard. Add depth to each comment. Avoid being suspended. I got da boot on a few networks because I suffered a temporary lapse in judgment. I dropped a few short comments quickly. Algorithms perceived my comments to be bot comments. I got shut down, kicked off social sites and never returned to a few. Others allowed me to fire up accounts. Lesson learned.
Be thorough. Personalize social media chats. Be genuine. Make friends. Be as chatty as a chipmunk. Engage consistently. Be seen.
Put the “social” in social media. Gain blogging exposure. Drive blog traffic through social media.
Comments link the social media world.
Savvy social media users drop comments strategically.
Each thought bonds two users plus their tribes.
Think of comments as joining people.
Drill the concept into your mind.
Resist the urge to be a lazy – or infrequent – social media comment dropper.
Reply to Your Social Media Comments
Oh yeah; reply to social media comments too.
Check notifications every 1-2 days. Feel free to scan ’em every 3 days if it pleases you. But be on the ball. Listen. Respond. Build relationships.
Bond with people. Read comments. Learn.
Engage to drive trusting buddies to your blog.
Some need coaxing to visit your site. Reading and replying to genuine social media comments provides the push to drive blog traffic.
I may go back and forth with meaningful social media conversations for a few hours, days or weeks. The social media buddy says:
“I loved our chats on Facebook. Thanks for your helpful blogging tips. I clicked on your blog. Excellent content. I read every blog post now. I will buy an eBook soon.”
That’s it. Talk to people. Reply to people. Make friends. Influence friends to take the next step. Drive blog traffic. Earn blogging income too.
What Is the Toughest Part of Driving Social Media Blog Traffic?
Social media traffic is slow-moving compared to email marketing.
Being patient enough to drop genuine comments during lean social media times is paramount.
I know how it feels. Drop ten detailed comments daily. Stare at metrics. No traffic increase. Stare at your email inbox? Crickets.
A negative voice shouts in the mind: “Social media is not a reliable traffic source!”
9 out of 10 bloggers agree. 9 out of 10 ditch social media.
But 1 out of 10 bloggers looks past the voice. This blogger drops genuine social media comments for the next month. This bloggers makes inroads with 5 billion human beings who use social media. Is that potential traffic base not big enough for you? Fine; I’ll take ’em!
Social media traffic through genuine:
- content
- comments
drips to your blog like watching coffee percolate.
Bloggers want email marketing roaring rapids versus the social media percolator drip. Go for that channel. Work it consistently. Drive blog traffic on demand. Building a responsive list creates instant traffic. Never underestimate the power of email marketing.
Use social media to balance your distribution streams. Email marketing works well. Adding social media traffic increases organic traffic and blogging income because it is one more marketing channel to work consistently. Plus 5 billion people use social media. Social media users query keywords. Either your content or genuine comments linked to helpful updates gain you exposure on Facebook and X. Social users migrate to your profile, blog and perhaps a few recent posts based on your social media strategy.
Talk to people.
Be genuine. Be generous with your time. Be truly helpful with your blogging expertise.
