I know that Google can wipe out your traffic overnight if you rely on Google for traffic. But Google cannot take your blog posts away from you.
Facebook can obliterate your traffic if you rely on Facebook for traffic. But Facebook cannot take your blog posts away from you.
Depending on domestic regulations, email traffic can drop like a rock down a canyon overnight too. This happens in United States at least. People love their privacy here. But the people over at MailChimp cannot take away Blogging From Paradise blog posts because I own everything here.
If or when the Zombie Apocalypse hits I still own 700 plus blogging tips theme posts on BFP. I blog independent of travel channels. I drive traffic through the channels. But I rely on my blog. I rely on my content. I rely on my creativity. I own everything here. No one can touch it. No one can take it away from me.
Who Thinks This Way?
What successful bloggers really have this attitude?
I’m not calling anybody out. Some do maintain this blogging ‘tude. But we all know what happens. Every human being who blogs loses posture at one time or another. Some never gained it back.
Everybody in this blogging world makes the mistake of looking to externals for success. Few decide to correct it. Reading a post like this may be your signal to look within and change things.
The thing that I never understood is that if you own something why wouldn’t you make that the determinant of your online business future?
Bloggers publish a post but immediately look to distribution as the source of organic traffic and income. I don’t own distribution channels. Why would you look to something you don’t own as the prime income generating factor. I’ll tell you one thing. People who own distribution channels don’t think this way.
Do you think that Mark Zuckerberg built Facebook by largely ignoring Facebook? Do you think he scrambled to distribution channels to disseminate a mediocre product?
I don’t think so buddy.
Yet bloggers do it by the millions every day.
Google-Obsessed Bloggers Forget THEIR Online Real Estate
Everything is Google this or Google that. But no bloggers own Google. Does it make sense to source your success on a site that you don’t know just because much of the planet uses it consistently?
Guess what people will use consistently if you prioritize it? Your blog.
After I publish a post I let it sit from time to time before tapping another button. I let 30 minutes to 60 minutes expire before I email my list. I do not promote the post through my social media arms.
What happens?
Sometimes a new post generates 80 page views within 30 minutes. I did not touch it. 80 page views originate organically.
I understand some of this is bot traffic.
But something fascinating happens based on my decision to have posture 12 years ago the moment I created Blogging From Paradise Dot Com.
Loyal fans who follow me closely visit my blog throughout the day to see if I published a new post.
Loyal fans who bookmark my blog visit to see if I published a new post.
Some of the views are human beings who visit my blog directly because they trust me.
Perish the thought!
Perhaps you do not need Google to gain trusted traffic?
Maybe helping human beings inspires them to visit your blog directly and consistently at that?
Blogging From Paradise RSS Feeds
Sarcasm aside, my blog also goes out to various RSS feeds. The feeds drip to social media, LinkedIn and other sources. Feedly, yadda yadda yadda.
I check LinkedIn 10 minutes after publishing a new post without promoting anything. Some of my LinkedIn friends drip the new post via RSS. Auto-pilot traffic.
This is what happens when you do not worship distribution channels but build bonds with human beings who trust you.
How did I reach that point?
I made my blog the priority.
I do everything through here. I run everything to and through here. My blog is the source of my success not Google. My blog is the source of my success not my email list. No one can take my blog posts from me. I prioritize my blog because it is mine. I prioritize nothing else because:
- nothing else is mine
- sites I do not own can be taken away from me in a split second
- blog traffic flowing through sites I do not own can vanish overnight
Blogging Cajones
Why does it take blogging balls to think this way?
Facing, feeling than looking past the fear known as:
“But how will people find my blog?!”
in a world stricken by that fear is not comfortable.
But posturing human beings who conquer similar fears tend to rule the world.
Admittedly, highly successful bloggers usually work distribution channels brilliantly. But whether conscious or unconscious, these individuals prioritize their blog. They do a dazzling job creating content. They serve readers with truly helpful blog posts. Top pros exhibit solid posture on some level at least.
I’m inviting you to develop that type of posture today.
Accept the truth.
Nobody can take your blog posts away from you. No distribution channel can take your blog posts away from you.
Here’s where the irony arises with great richness.
The more posture you show the more distribution channels potentially bow to your blog.
One of the most viewed posts on my blog explains how I get Google traffic without caring about getting Google traffic. I don’t optimize posts traditionally here. Yet I drive Google traffic.
My monthly Google traffic ranges from the hundreds to the thousands over the years but I don’t care about it. It could be zero. I own 700 blog posts that Google cannot take away from me. Who cares? Readers bookmark my blog. Readers drip my RSS feed through multiple channels. Why? I made my blog A1 because I own it. No one can take it from me.
People will follow your blog directly. Prioritize your blog. Care about human beings by listening to them. Solve their problems with blog posts. Influence them to bookmark your blog. Inspire readers to visit a few times daily.
Developing posture seems impossible if you harbor worthiness issues.
Chip away at deserving issues; you’ll get there.
What are you waiting for?
At the end of the day, nobody can take your blog posts away from you.
Remember that to develop greater confidence in yourself, your blog and your loyal tribe.
Give people a chance to become addicted to your content by losing the addiction to Google.
