Is blogging worth it?
Why would you blog?
Why would you not blog?
I want to share both perspectives to give you a clear idea about blogging.
Blogging is worth it for some.
Blogging is definitely not worth it for others.
I am in the business of teaching bloggers how to blog. That education consists of helping people decide if blogging is actually worth it for them in the first place.
Is Blogging Worth It?
Blogging is worth it for me because I enjoy circling the globe full time through running a blog. I never could have lived this life during my security guard days. I had 5 vacation days per year back then (European readers; feel free to take a break to process that horror).
Blogging opened my eyes. I stopped trading time for money through this online business model. I patiently built passive income streams to live where I want for however long I wish.
But everybody walks a different life path.
Blogging is not worth it for people who value different aspects of life.
Weigh the pros and cons below to make an informed decision for yourself.
Keep these ideas in mind to figure out if blogging is worth it for you or not.
Yes
Freedom Means the World to You
I cannot accurately put into words how freeing it feels to wake up and decide how I want to spend my day.
You see, guys, few human beings choose to engineer their life based on being free to live how they wish to live. Most forfeit that freedom for illusory job security, family approval and a blanket decision to live in survival mode.
Blogging works for bloggers who choose freedom and discomfort over fear, comfort and the myth of security.
From personal experience, if you want life to be a fun, freeing adventure then blogging is a great way to do it.
You Dream Big
Blogging is worth it if you dream big.
Dreaming big pulls you beyond fears.
Dreaming big eggs you on past obstacles.
Dream big. See beyond survival mode. Blogging works for people who see their big dreams in vivid detail.
Everyone stumbles in the beginning. Dreaming big helps you to see past those stumbles to a bright future.
You Want to Work
Blogging works for bloggers who spend time working this gig persistently.
Blogging offers you whatever you offer to blogging.
If you follow a proven strategy diligently for the long haul then blogging will be worth it.
Stick to the basics. Work diligently. Put in the time. Make blogging worth it.
Blogging mirrors working a job as far as a time commitment. Expect to put in 6-8 hours daily for full time bloggers or 2-4 hours day with long weekend sessions for full time employees who blog part time.
Are you cool with that?
Blogging can well worth it for you.
You Enjoy Helping People
Blogging feels fun for generous servants.
Successful bloggers love helping people.
Do you enjoy helping people? Blogging is worth it.
Being generous makes blogging fun.
I love:
- writing blog posts
- broadcasting live
- promoting fellow bloggers
- serving my readers
Helpful people love blogging.
You Want to Leave Your Comfort Zone
Blogging rockets me outside of my comfort zone on an hourly basis sometimes.
I cherish the discomfort because developing this skill helped me in every area of life.
What are problems but the fear of seeking uncomfortable solutions?
Blogging pushed me outside of my comfort zone to solve blogging problems. I became bold, confident and posturing online and offline after starting a blog.
Blogging has been worth it for this sole reason alone.
Do you want to solve problems quickly?
Begin blogging.
The activity morphs open-minded folks into different people.
You Want the Ultimate Resume
What piece of online or offline real estate offers a more complete resume than a thorough blog?
Running a well-stocked WordPress Dot Org Blog offers employers the ultimate resume. From your work, to your personality to your niche-specific skills, blogging is one of the best ways to show off your job-related experience.
In a fast-paced world the days of paper resumes seem obsolete. Do employers want a piece of paper with words or a seeming living, breathing, multi-media publication masquerading as a blog to learn about what makes a potential employee click?
Blogging is well worth it to build a dazzling resume online.
No
You Want to Do Everything for Free
Blogging requires a financial investment.
At a minimum, bloggers invest money in a domain and hosting. Forward-thinking bloggers invest in a blogging course and premium theme.
Blogging is not worth it for freebie seekers because you cannot succeed unless you invest money in this venture.
Blogging on free platforms promotes struggles because no genuine branding or monetizing potential exists on a blog that you do not own.
You Want Something for Nothing
Bloggers who crave something for nothing soon discover that blogging involves working patiently for a long time to drive traffic and income.
Blogging is never worth it for people who want easy money. New bloggers usually harbor unrealistic expectations based on wanting something for nothing. Some expect to go pro in 6-12 months. Others want to make six figures within a year. Both parties meet hard, cold reality sooner than later.
Visit your local casino if you want something for nothing; blogging is not worth your while.
You Try to Wing It
Blogging does not work for folks who try to wing it.
Patiently studying, learning and practicing blogging precedes a successful blogging career.
No one figures it out on their own because there is too much to figure out.
Beginner bloggers often give blogging a half-hearted shot before quitting quickly. This crowd almost never learns how to blog successfully from a seasoned pro. Most have no idea what they’re doing but think that experimenting is the most intelligent way to succeed.
Blogging is never worth it for people who do not learn how to blog from professionals.
Either decide to learn how to blog from pros or try something else.
Winging it never works.
You Fear a Lonely Endeavor
Blogging feels lonely sometimes.
For the past 15 years I spent 1000’s of hours typing at a keyboard. I enjoy the peace and quiet mostly but feel lonely sometimes.
Blogging may not be worth it for gregarious people. Thriving on human interaction makes blogging a no-go for social butterflies.
You Cannot Stomach Financial Droughts
Blogging income increases in non-linear fashion.
Financial droughts are common during building years.
Even when blogging income grows to more stable levels it never mimics a set paycheck.
Most people expect to get paid a specific amount at a set date. You and I learn to think, feel and act like employees, for the most part.
Stomaching financial instability tests even patient, trusting bloggers.
Blogging is not your jam if you demand a steady paycheck.
Blogging Consumes Your Time
Blogging is time-consuming.
Blogging effectively means spending hours daily for years building a granite-like foundation.
Working for free during building years feels taxing. Stepping away from family functions, guys or gals night out or time with the kids periodically may cause you to question: is blogging worth it?
Deeply valuing your family relationships, social life and offline hobbies may mean backburnering blogging for now.
The Verdict
I personally feel like blogging is worth it because it feels fun and freeing to me.
But since I am not here to convince you of anything simple make the right choice for yourself.
Gauge the pros versus cons to decide if blogging is worth it for you.
