Do your latest blog posts enter the blogging void of no return?

Let me share the painful process.

  1. Publish new content.
  2. Distribute new content through a few channels.
  3. Listen to the frustrating melody of blogging crickets.
  4. Watch blogging tumbleweeds roll by.

New blog posts published by distribution averse bloggers sport the shelf life of fresh milk in the humid tropics.

Perhaps your recent blog posts die a quick and painful death.

But only because you know not how to give these suckers attention.

Placing prying peepers on your latest blog posts creates movement. Think “breaking news”. Everyone wants the new news before anyone else. Exclusivity deal. Timely content wins. Relevance dominates.

But you need to know how to make new blog posts easy to find.

Drive blog traffic by explicitly directing people to your latest posts.

Distribution counts. Aggressive distribution counts even more.

Blogging is a hell of a lot more than writing and publishing blog posts.

I got news for you.

Your job has just begun.

Make recent posts prominent. Shine the spotlight on timely work. Give each post a chance to gain strong momentum. Fresh content positions itself to drive serious organic reach.

I made quite a few blogging blunders over the years. Burying my latest posts sits right near the top of my list.

I officially stopped rushing the new post distribution process as of today.

Now I know better.

Think *Exposure to Be Found* Not Traffic Maxing through Popular Channels

Before we proceed I want to stress one point; making it easy to find a post through 10 or 12 or 15 channels is different than maximizing traffic through one or two channels. I wrote this post to cultivate your abundance mindset not to psychologically attach to one channel like Google.

Bad idea.

Google changes with the tides. Big traffic today becomes bleak traffic tomorrow. Forget about the fact that humans and not Google read blogs, drive referral traffic and boost referral income. Humans use a few more sites than Google to seek assistance. The spirit of this post is to spotlight those other sites.

We want to be found by singing our latest posts to the blogging mountain tops.

Be seen in many spots to make that happen.

Some spots offer heavy traffic. Other spots offer little. All online roads lead to your blog at the end of the day.

Peppering backlinks through conventional and unconventional channels works best to reach this goal.

Make it easy for readers to find your latest posts with these tips.

1: Post to Social Media Profiles

First we get this popular distribution method out of the way.

Never be lazy. Bloggers mail this one in sometimes. Why turn your back on 5 billion people?

Embed social share buttons to your blog. Give readers an easy way to promote your latest blog posts.

Post your latest blog posts to:

Bonus; set up Facebook Pages. Post to Pages.

Anemic engagement rates on social become less anemic if you actually post to the freaking platforms consistently.

Stop being lazy.

Get your new content on social media pronto.

Come and get it.

2: Post to Social Media Groups

Social media groups rank well through social search.

Algorithms favor groups as authority-building communities. Collectives of smart individuals beat one smart individual using social as a broadcasting platform.

Take advantage of this phenomenon.

Share your latest posts to:

  • Facebook Groups
  • LinkedIn Groups

Social media groups amplify organic reach.

I suggest creating your own groups. Run the show. Be the admin Publish detailed content to these communities. Share practical, text-only tips. Drop blog post links to rich resources.

Build organic traffic through groups.

Be a value provider not a blogging shill.

Pitch business sparingly.

Help people for free.

Earn trust.

3: Share to Reddit

Reddit is a low traffic source as far as sharing recent blog posts to your profile.

Do it anyway.

Summarize the recent post with a few paragraphs. Drop an image and link to your blog.

Someone eventually stumbles upon the fresh content. Reddit users find Blogging From Paradise through this tactic when I stick to it consistently.

Share posts to your Reddit profile.

Gain exposure in front of this titanic Q&A site.

Never share blog posts to a Subreddit. Respect strict rules consistent with these collectives.

Publish detailed answers to questions Join Subreddits within your blogging niche. Share knowledge. Drill down.

Drive users to your profile; some see your latest blog posts.

4: Share to Quora

Quora provides you with a global audience of folks looking for answers.

New blog content may be the answer for one or two Quora users.

Like sharing to Reddit, simply point a link back to your blog from Quora.

Give context to the post.

Summarize it.

Embed an image and link to the latest post.

5: Email Your List

Of course; email your list.

Send posts through the most convenient medium.

Create an enticing title.

Email new posts immediately after going live.

Never overlook the best way to promote content, new or old.

Find the inbox.

People attach to the inbox.

When is the last time the average person checked their email?

See what I mean?

6: Embed a Related Posts Plug In

After covering two social media themed posts for bloggers recently I noticed something: the latest two social media posts popped up as related posts for each other.

Plug-in, for the win!

Search for a related post plug-in via your backoffice.

Embed it at the bottom of blog posts.

Cover as many bases as possible.

7: Share a Snippet via LinkedIn Articles

Copy and paste the first few paragraphs of your post to a LinkedIn article.

Pick a snappy title.

Embed one image.

My LinkedIn Articles rank on page 1 of Google here and there. I note fellow bloggers who enjoy the same benefit of using this professional network to publish articles.

The Google algorithm perceives authority in those pro parts.

8: Share a Smidge via Medium

Share the first few paragraphs for a Medium article. Link to your latest post.

Add an image with an eye-catching title.

Medium offers bloggers a large, loyal community of solution seekers.

Be seen by this crew.

Share new content to the medium known as Medium despite the ego’s grievances that this is tedium (it’s not).

9: Record a Video for YouTube

The sky is the limit here.

Consider broadcasting live, publishing a reel and publishing a long form video to amplify your reach.

I get lazy with this one. I promise to do it for this blog post, though.

Summarize the latest post. Drop a direct link to the post.

Drive traffic to fresh, new content through the Google of Videos, also known as the second biggest search engine in the world.

10: Inter Link to New Posts Liberally

Link to recent posts via both recent and older posts.

Point readers to fresh content.

Make it easy for your community to find new blog posts.

Drop 3-5 links per post.

11: List 10 Recent Posts on Your Home Page

Extend the number of recent posts on your homepage.

Link to 10 posts.

Blog abundantly.

Get eyeballs on your latest content by featuring new posts prominently.

12: Embed Latest Posts on the Sidebar

Use a plug-in to embed the latest posts to your sidebar.

I added the most obvious tip last because I am smart.

Query via your backoffice.

Pick one.

Embed as a widget.

Conclusion

Fan the flames under fresh content.

Pop up before targeted readers.

Give new content the attention it deserves.

The idea of the need to have your home page as a rolling blog post feed is genius and yesterday it proved to be a A1 blogging strategy..

I posted a backstory from Madagascar. I was then out all day. I didn’t get round to sharing it until much later.

Having the latest post in the home page blog feed puts it in plain sight. People like you, drop by.

I do the same. “Hmm, I wonder if Ryan published anything new today?”. You get the answer straight away. The latest post is 1 click away from the home base. Less chance of getting lost along the way.

A few hours after hitting the publish button, Ryan of Blogging from Paradise, yeah, this blog, looked me up.

He hit my home page, either typing Nomadic Backpacker into Google, or from my FB profile or from memory.

So whilst is was on my way to see my suegrita with my wife, He shared my latest post on Blue Sky. and that’s very easy to do using the social media share buttons I added using a WP plug in “AddToAny Share Buttons”

My latest post was suddenly in front of a good few people, working for me whilst I was enjoying living!

The strategy of putting the latest post on the home page, where it is dang easy to find is genius!

Plus, you get two page hits. 1 to the home and 1 to the latest post.

As a footnote, this is why on your social media platforms, always have a link to your blog in your profile. Your blog is 1 click away.

If you use these link sharing platforms like Like Tree and you post that in your SM profile, potential visitors are shown an index page of all your social media platforms, let’s say 6 of them and 1 link to your blog… so 7 links, 1 in 7 chance that people will click through to your blog..

You summed this concept up perfectly Trevor.

First off, thanks for the idea to increase posts displayed on the first page. Thinking abundantly is effective. Give visitors more reasons to consume recent posts. Happy readers glue themselves to your blog.

From there, some click links within the post pointing to relevant resources. Others tap on related posts embedded beneath every post. You cannot lose by making it easy for readers to find a slew of helpful posts on your blog.

I begin typing “nomadicbackpacker” into my browser. Based on my history, your domain name pops up and I click “enter”.

I remember you and your blog because you:

      – publish highly detailed, practical, useful travel tips
      – blog genuinely
      – help bloggers freely in different ways from promoting our posts on X, Facebook and Blue Sky in addition to dropping genuine blog comment
      – provide me and other bloggers with practical ideas
      – foster authentic conversations with thoughtful blog comments

I appreciate all you do for me and other bloggers out there. I find it easy to return to your blog; you care. You are truly helpful.

I love promoting bloggers who do it the right way.

I guess there are multiple right ways but yours vibes with mine.

Help each other then let things organically proceed how things are meant to proceed.

      Good things happen from there.

Some of my blogging ideas came from Wade over at Vagabond Journey. The black text on white background, the need for a related post plug-in, the blog feed on the home page. the simple design. He ran posts on how to reduce page loading speed by killing unwanted plugins, more than 10 years ago.

Other things like good contextual links, don’t 301 redirect to the home for the sake of not losing a link, having a good 404 page (via a plug-in) and other top-notch blogging strategies i picked up in the years with Weebly.

Another footnote: your “Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment” thingy doesn’t seem to work… at least not for me

Noted on the save information for comments. I’ll see what’s up.

We pick up practical tips from other bloggers seamlessly. Networking freely is important. Building friendships makes blogging easier. Our blogging buddies offer practical information because each has gone through what we’re going through.

We really can do so much when we work together towards the common goal of increasing organic traffic.
