Twitter serves as a potential goldmine for bloggers.
Using the platform effectively drives steady traffic to your blog.
Most bloggers never tap into the full power of Twitter. Some write it off based on the negative aspects of the site. Others do not understand how to work the platform to actually draw people to their blog.
Following the below tips positions you to increase Twitter traffic to your blog.
I drive a steady volume of traffic through Twitter to Blogging From Paradise via my handle. Sticking to the basics shared boosts Twitter traffic but only over the long term. Just because you can tweet often doesn’t mean you will drive fast, easy traffic through the microblogging platform.
Adopt a “slow and steady” approach to organically send tweeters to your blog.
Note; I wrote this post after spotting a few different ways that bloggers can optimize their tweets for more blog traffic.
Utilize this platform effectively by following these tips.
1: Tweet Content that Drives People to Your Blog
People visit your blog through Twitter if you give them a clear reason to do so.
Tweet helpful content to draw blog readers through the social media site.
Think about reader needs. Tweet blog posts, videos, podcasts and text-only updates to solve reader problems. Tweet attention-grabbing images. Tweeters happy with your solutions gradually migrate to your blog to increase your blog traffic.
Fear not over-tweeting. At last count, Twitter allows thousands of tweets daily. Few human beings hit this threshold.
Let your tweets ride. Solve problems. Inspire followers. Inform. Educate.
Increase blog traffic by making your Twitter handle a trusted resource.
2: Embed a Retweet Button
For whatever reason, more bloggers decided to remove social share buttons over the past few months.
A hefty majority removed the Twitter share button.
Every time I copy and paste a:
- blog post title
- blog post link
to share blog posts for my 48,000 followers on Twitter I think of how few of those followers – and humans in general – bother to share blog posts on the platform if no Twitter sharing button appears embedded on the blog post.
Perhaps no one shared blog posts on Twitter “in the past” but I share your blog posts “with 48,000 followers now.”
I put in the extra blogging effort. But don’t assume that most followers will do the same; many won’t.
Put in the extra effort yourself by embedding social sharing buttons. Never turn your back on 4.9 billion human beings. Make it easy for them to drive traffic to your blog through Twitter.
3: Populate Share Button Tweets with Your Twitter Handle
Adding your Twitter handle to share button tweets increases your follower count, blog traffic and potential income too.
Seeing your handle amplifies your presence on the platform.
The majority of bloggers never add their user name to tweets via the share button. Making this mistake leaves a potentially heavy volume of blog traffic on the table.
Why not get credit for your content?
Why not gain followers and blog traffic by sharing your Twitter username to socially shared tweets?
Look up your social sharing plug-ins via the WordPress back office. Add your Twitter handle.
Be careful not to make the common error of adding an “@” to the Twitter username in the appropriate field. I sometimes see tweets with user names like:
“@@RyanBiddulph”
Again guys; never assume that readers will take the time to remove one “@” or even notice the error.
Type in your user name appropriately to boost followers and blog traffic.
4: Casually Chat with People on the Platform
Chat with people casually on Twitter.
Social tweeters appear prominently in the main stream.
Appearing often in the main stream increases your blog traffic.
Social bloggers get the most:
- attention
- exposure
- traffic
- income
because genuinely engaging bloggers get the greatest rewards from social media algorithms.
Sites like Twitter make big bucks on the backs of tweeters who:
- chat genuinely with tweeters in the main stream
- @reply to tweeters who retweet their content
- @reply to tweeters who chat with them casually
Tweet about the weather. Tweet about your family. Discuss tweets published by fellow bloggers. Ask questions. Share answers.
Be genuine to make the greatest impact.
Be authentic to stand out in a positive way.
Blogger Donna Merrill taught me many years ago that social media works for bloggers who treat such sites like a party.
Fostering meaningful discussions gives you strong exposure on the micro-blogging platform.
Being seen organically boosts blog traffic.
5: Retweet Bloggers Often
Retweeting bloggers is a quick, easy way to boost your blog traffic because some bloggers whom you retweet decide to retweet your blog posts.
Retweeting your posts drives traffic to your blog via their loyal followers on Twitter.
Imagine someone with 10,000 followers retweeting a Blogging From Paradise post. 10,000 potential folks see the post. Some visit my blog to increase my blog traffic.
Retweet:
- quality content
- blog posts related to your niche
- a few off niche posts to change things up a little bit
Some bloggers advise to retweet other bloggers with 70% or more of your tweets.
Ultimately, try to halve tweets pointing to your blog and other blogs.
Being generous builds your blogger friend network.
Being a connected blogger goads your blogging buddies to drive traffic to your blog around the clock.
6: Populate Share Button Tweets with the Blog Post Title
Instead of populating tweets with “Check out this post” as the title make sure to include the title of the blog post to drive blog traffic.
Sharing blog post titles gives followers clarity. Being clear on tweeting a specific title related to the link boosts retweets and blog traffic.
Note; double check share button tweets from time to time. Some appear to break. Others provide only links without any introductory text.
Trouble shoot share buttons often to maximize blog traffic through Twitter.
7: Cultivate a Long Term Twitter Mindset
Think long term on the platform to increase blog traffic slowly and steadily.
Most bloggers want instant results.
Some judge their entire blogging campaign on day to day metrics.
I have made both prior errors but did stick with it for long enough to build a 48,000 tweeter following on the platform.
However, that big number does not really mean anything. Individual bloggers who retweet my blog posts drive traffic to Blogging From Paradise.
Establish relationships with these bloggers took time, patience and a long term vision to follow the fundamentals.
Take your time on Twitter. Never cut corners. Never attempt to take short cuts.
Blog traffic flows to patient bloggers who use the site with a long term mentality.
Conclusion
Contrary to its volatile nature, Twitter can be the most stable, consistent and quality form of blog traffic based on tweeter loyalty combined with the high volume approach to engagement on the platform.
Trusting followers who share your updates can drive a heavy volume of traffic to your blog through Twitter.
