Is Your Blogging Strategy Based on Days or Decades?

Blogs are assets.

Building dependable assets takes decades.

Is this unrealistic?

No.

Good things take time to come together even if you do the work successfully.

Most bloggers plan strategies based on day to day statistics.

Do these thoughts pop up in your mind?

  • “How did I do today?”
  • “How did today compare to yesterday?”
  • “How did this week compare to last week?”
  • “How did I do this month?”

Most bloggers change their strategies based on statistical answers to these specific questions. Setting impossibly short time frames is severely short sighted.

But an even trickier mistake arises.

Bloggers often perceive statistics negatively or from a state of delusion, like:

  • “Oh my God I did so terribly today.”
  • “Oh my God I did such a terrific job today.”
  • “I will never become a successful blogger based on my statistics today.”
  • “I will certainly become a successful blogger based on my statistics today.”

Notice the mental dance between hopelessness and delusion based on 24 hour intervals. Spot the hopelessness and delusion based on weekly or monthly intervals.

A blog is an asset.

Building assets successfully requires a decade (and longer) of mindful work to let the vehicle yield substantial results.

Retirement accounts yield returns over decades. CEO’s build companies over decades. Marathon runners train over decades. Artists master their craft over decades.

Becoming high successful involves doing simple things for an extraordinary stretch of time.

How Assets Work

One of my blog posts topped Google in 2014. The post held that spot through 2026.

The business asset sent targeted traffic to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com for years because I patiently created the business asset years prior. I did not judge the post based on stats from 24 hours after the publish date. I treated it like an asset not a ticking time bomb needing careful observation every few hours.

How Blogging Works

Follow guidance from genuine professional bloggers.

Publish detailed blog posts. Target one niche to gain topical authority.

Follow these steps for decades.

Check statistics daily, weekly or monthly if you wish but do not change fundamental strategies based on these numbers. No one accurately judges a blogging strategy on 24 hours, a week or a month because assets perform over decades not days.

How Do You Know that Your Strategy Does Not Work?

Imagine if zero visitors show up on your blog for a sustained time frame.

If one person shows up for a sustained time frame there is potential. One person found your blog. 50,000 other people can find your blog based on the pattern driving one person to your blog. Since one person found it many can find it.

Fine tune your strategy at that point. Consider leveraging. Tweak your plan.

What Statistical Time Frame Indicates Severe Strategic Flaws?

Observing zero visitors over one month suggests a severe statistical flaw. Something is wrong with the strategy because nobody found the blog after 30 consecutive days of working a sound strategy consistently.

But wait a second.

Did you invest at least 2-4 hours daily to work a sound strategy? Answer honestly. Some bloggers blame numbers instead of looking within, at their mindset, workload and consistently.

Is One Month too Long?

No it is not because based on the average human lifespan and lack of commitment to any specific task, almost everyone futzes around for weeks before going all in. Yep; me included.

If no one visits your blog after 1-2 weeks you likely face the severe resistance every blogger slams into at the outset. Everyone unconsciously believes that no one will visit their blog so it becomes manifest in the world for a bit before dissolving the mental block with:

  • mindfulness
  • a willingness to follow a successful strategy consistently

Great Work Builds Life-Changing Blogs

I do not perceive my blog to be special.

But my blog changed my life dramatically.

Blogging for 15,000 plus hours built Blogging From Paradise (and a prior blog) into life-changing assets.

Building something substantial involves doing these things consistently:

  • research blog posts
  • write new blog posts
  • update old blog posts
  • design a blog
  • listen to reader feedback
  • monetize a blog
  • create content offsite for X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Blue Sky
  • answer questions on Reddit and Quora
  • comment genuinely on blogs
  • guest post
  • learn continually

I’m not saying to follow all of those strategies simultaneously. But now you know why it took me 15,000 hours to build an asset. I worked alternating tactics from the list for almost two decades.

This is why blogging strategies are based on decades not days.

Completing an extraordinary volume of simple tasks requires an extraordinary length of time.

Conclusion

Relax.

You will be here for a while.

Think long term.

Good things take consistent work and ample time to manifest.
