Why Did You Write That Blog Post?

Did you write the post to make money?

Did you write the post to follow a strict publishing schedule?

Did you write the post to rank on Google?

Or did you write the post because it was truly helpful for your targeted reader?

Did your readers give you the idea to write the post?

Did you write the post based exclusively on reader feedback?

Did you write the post because you spotted a reader pain point before the individual asked you the question?

I sometimes delete drafts after completing posts. Rereading the title reveals that I wrote something without considering my readers.

I rarely do this. Yet I do it.

My ego causes every blogging problem.

My intuition generates every blogging solution.

Publish Based on Reader Feedback

Publish blog posts to solve your reader’s specific problems.

Don’t bother with anything else.

Most bloggers want to rank on page one of Google but miss the point. Writing for Google is different than writing for your readers. Google is a thing. Your readers bring you specific questions. Trusting humans tell you to write something for them to return consistently. Google traffic is people searching for an answer but most have no idea who you are at that point. Who is more reliable? A loyal reader, customer and client telling you what to do or someone who knows you not searching for a term?

New readers can find your blog through Google.

But your readership is already here.

Is this a difficult concept to master?

Of course it is because almost nobody teaches blogging along these lines.

Optimizing posts for Google makes sense but not as your prime business builder. Google traffic is still cool compared to the hottest traffic: loyal readers telling you what to do to amplify your organic traffic and blogging income.

Why would Google be your focus if your readers consistently bring you the right blog post ideas?

Read Comments Carefully

Readers usually bring you ideas through comments. Complaints arise. Grievances are aired. Some share their accomplishments. Others are lost in blogging despair.

Every reader emotion projected is a blog post idea.

Solve reader problems to generate built-in traffic.

Loyal readers bookmark your blog. None of these readers need to find you because they follow you.

Every new reader who finds you through Google can’t follow you until they find you. Should these people be the priority if loyal readers already prioritized your blog?

Prioritize your readers first. Optimize posts for Google but cover topics readers tell you to explore. Most bloggers struggle to spot blog post ideas offered by loyal readers. Google becomes a priority. Loyal followers become the second option.

I never do keyword research. First I listen to my reader’s comments. I usually divine blog post ideas from their thoughts. In rare cases I query blogging tips through Google to snag blog post ideas but only if reader engagement temporarily dies down.

Why Blog?

I published this post because my readers enjoy exercising their mental muscles.

I spotted a potential problem through reader comments. From emails, social media chats and comments on Blogging From Paradise Dot Com, some bloggers target new readers but forget loyal readers.

We all make the mistake of searching for more traffic versus solving profitable problems served up by our loyal leaders. Tribes drive referral traffic and referral income. But listening carefully to your tribe puts the process into motion.

Who needs more when readers organically offer you more traffic and income?

SEO Comes Later

Readers first.

Optimize for SEO after.

Do you currently have engaged blog readers?

Mining profitable blog post ideas should never be a problem because that person offers 5 or 10 blog post ideas per comment.

Three sentences become one blog post idea. Break down that blog post idea into five blog post ideas.

Doing this drives like-minded people to your blog.

Like-minded people increase referral traffic and referral business.

This is how to become a professional blogger.

Follow this simple process consistently.

Begin by asking:

“Why did you write that blog post?”

Did you do it for readers?

Google Is One Way to Acquire the First Readers

Optimize posts for Google to get your first readers.

But Google is not the only game in town.

My first readers came from guest blogging and genuine blog commenting as did my first customers.

Solving their problems drove like-minded people to my blog.

I never needed Google traffic because people sent like-minded people to my blog. Referral marketing never fails.

Conquer the fear of “not enough”.

Focus on your tribe. Listen to their needs.

Publish content to solve their specific problems.

Conclusion

Google can send the first readers to your blog.

Guest blogging, genuine blog commenting and social media marketing can send the first readers to your blog.

Listen closely to these folks. Let them guide you. Publish content to help them. Drive referrals.

This is why you blog.

Optimize posts for SEO to drive targeted traffic.

Make greater feedback the priority.

Blog to serve trusting readers.
