Fruit juice stand in Istanbul Turkey. One sees these stands all over the city along with simit stands, ice cream stands and shops for the delicious Turkish Delight. The ice cream hawkers are ball busters but good-natured; fair warning.
During my 18-year blogging career I have seen top earners who ran plain blogs.
Make no mistake about it. The pros published truly helpful content. The full-time bloggers connected with their audience. But each ran a plain blog. Nothing seemed spectacular about their work. None of these bloggers appear to be highly talented writers. Yet each went full-time to enjoy freedom time and location.
I have read blogs published by thousands of highly talented writers. Forget the writing talent for a moment; some of these bloggers created a flawless user experience. Everything checked the marks for these blogging dynamos. But most if not all struggled to get any organic traffic or to earn any blogging income.
Why do highly talented bloggers struggle to drive traffic and income?
Why do average bloggers generate heavy organic traffic and blogging income?
Struggling bloggers lack confidence.
Successful bloggers do not lack confidence.
Vicious Struggling Blogger Cycle
Struggling bloggers find themselves in a vicious cycle. Everyone works hard to improve their blog because they believe the blog is not good enough. Each of these bloggers deeply fears being criticized. Some of these bloggers fear failing.
But the fear resides on an unconscious level beneath the improvement obsession. Each of these bloggers is quite busy making everything look as perfect as possible. But the traffic and income are non-existent until the individuals conquer confidence issues because no one moves beyond the imagined limits of the unconscious mind.
Meanwhile, the average blogger with the average blog who exudes confidence drives heavy organic traffic and blogging income consistently. Successful bloggers who thrive peacefully do not engage in endless loop of self-improvement and blogging improvement because each knows that they are good enough. This crowd also knows that their blogs are fine.
Perhaps successful bloggers brimming with confidence adjust their blogs from time to time. But there’s no concept of struggling to be good enough like there is with those struggling bloggers hell bent on improving everything day after day.
Work Reflects Confidence
Observe your blogging work.
What do you do consistently?
How do you feel while you do it?
Plain Jane bloggers create helpful content consistently and confidently. Confident bloggers adjust the sails. But never from a “I am not good enough and need to improve to be accepted” mindset like most do. Bold bloggers improve from a place of posture. Pros – or future pros – know their worth. Posturing bloggers know the worth of their blog. Improving is enhancing not trying to be good enough to make a penny or to drive one person to a blog.
Highly talented bloggers struggle to drive a few folks or dimes to and through blogs for lacking confidence.
How could the issue be anything but confidence?
Highly skilled bloggers:
- write clearly
- present a seamless user experience
Some do a fabulous job on the blogger outreach side of things. Others share detailed content on sites like Facebook and X.
But struggling bloggers work from self-doubt. Analysis paralysis cripples these individuals. Struggling bloggers take one baby step forward then one big step backward. Today you drive heavy Google traffic. Based on this fleeting result you feel falsely confident. Tomorrow the traffic disappears. Your false sense of externally-driven confidence vanishes into nothingness. Now you need to improve something on the outside because looking externally means NOT looking internally into the mind choosing thoughts, feelings and actions.
Fiddle with your theme. Optimize the old post. Republish the old post. Network a little bit more. Do something. Do anything. But for the love of God, never look within your mind to spot the source of blogging struggles: a lack of confidence.
Until you improve your confidence it matters not how much you improve your blog. Doubt confuses you. Doubtful bloggers do not know how to use their blogs. Doubtful bloggers do a little bit, check metrics, doubt themselves based on the metrics and proceed from a half-baked effort because doubtful bloggers never commit fully to blogging.
Who Am I Pointing My Finger At?
Me.
I observe in fellow bloggers the same mental pattern I suffered from for years. I still protect my mind vigilantly from “Improvement-I-Tis without Strengthening Self Confidence” because unconscious thought patterns run deeply in my mind.
Do the work confidently to thrive peacefully.
Look within to spot self-doubt. Numbers do not place self-doubt in the mind. Numbers reflect self-doubt – or an unshakable self-belief – back to bloggers.
Life is an inside game. Life unfolds internally not externally.
What About the Work Aspect of Blogging?
Successful bloggers do ordinary things for an extraordinary time confidently to go pro.
Struggling bloggers slam into resistance after doing simple or complex things for an ordinary length of time due to an utter lack of confidence in self and strategy.
Delving into the mind reveals that struggles manifest after self-sabotaging. You doubt, so you quit. You doubt, so you blame. You doubt, so you run away from doing ordinary things for an extraordinary length of time. How you think determines what you do and how you do it. What you do and how you do it never determines how you think. None are mindless. We all have a mind.
This is why traditional business advice like, “Work like hell, take action, plow through obstacles and succeed” makes no sense. Mindless creatures lack discernment, vision and most of all, confidence. If you have no clue in hell what’s happening in your mind how can you be confident? Taking action *APPEARS* to instill confidence but the confidence precedes the action because no one is mindless. First you choose a thought. Then you act. But the process happens so fast – unconsciously – for the sleeping-minded that it seems to be an “I took this action to think-feel this way” when that is untrue.
Robots take action but feel nothing.
Humans choose to think and feel a certain way to take action or to resist taking action.
The action never comes before the mind-choice within.
Conclusion
Confident bloggers work confidently for a long time to succeed.
Bloggers who doubt self and their content work really hard to improve content to be good enough to thrive. In most cases these bloggers struggle for years. In rare cases, a sliver experiences success but being burdened by self-doubt and the need to improve, to be good enough, which is not a fun, freeing, peaceful way to blog. You will never experience lasting peace with the burden of needing to do another 100 things just to stay afloat.
Conquer self-doubt.
Look within.
Do the work confidently to succeed peacefully.
