Does writer’s block assail you?

Consider alternating blog post types.

I love changing post types here to stimulate ideas.

Blogging is not robotic but intuitive.

Ironically, I wrote this post before turning on “Westworld” this evening.  The HBO classic went the way of the dinosaur a few years ago. But I watched the first season again to stimulate my imagination.

The robots do as programmed. Until……spoiler alert for those living under a rock….they do not.

Intuitive bloggers become creative bloggers.

But some think like a robot to creatively box themselves in.

Did you ever fall into a mindless blogging groove? Some pro tells you to publish a specific post type to maximize traffic. Maybe the leader goads you to write another type to generate big profits. Blogging feels boring at that point. I care not if you make big scrilla or struggle to sniff a penny. Being truly helpful demands one to blog from an inspired mindset.

Switching post types stokes your blogging inspiration.

I took my blogging medicine for this post. I shied away from publishing list-style content for a bit. But things got a little stale on old Blogging From Paradise. My last few posts did not flow smoothly from my mind to my laptop. Yet spit balling a list post idea stimulated me. I wrote this post in a short period of time because the change of pace fired up my imagination.

Today I want to share four blog post idea types to help you think outside of the blogging box.

Before we feast on the content, be aware that some skewer any or all post types below.

Listicles seem the bane of travel bloggers jealous of other travel bloggers who dominate page 1 with the dreaded listicle. Envy grows to superhuman levels if the listicle crowd makes serious bank.

The moral of the story: write listicles to piss off jealous, failing travel bloggers.

In all truthfulness, the real message here is to do what works for your readers and you despite grievances from envious bloggers.

That pearl of wisdom is far more important than you currently realize.

Anyway, on to the post types.

How to Posts

Lay out how to do something. Publish a blog post.

Build an outline listing all steps. Flesh out each step. Publish your blog post.

Consider why Google became popular. Why did YouTube become a go-to resource? People want to know how to do something.

Follow suit with your blog.

Teach readers how to complete specific tasks.

My blogging how-to guides seem popular because bloggers want to know how to mine the most treasured currency.

Baby step readers through processes. Add all necessary details. Review your steps; leave nothing out.

Title these posts with crystal clear simplicity. My most direct titles nab the greatest number of clicks.

List Style Posts

List style blog posts lay out tips or strategies.

Travel bloggers may build lists of what to do in a specific city.

Personal development bloggers tend to list tips for strengthening your mind.

Whatever the list, double figure numbers seem to draw in readers.

But never publish a big number post to draw in readers alone. Create value first and foremost.

I caution bloggers against listing steps that balloon into the stratosphere.  Sharing 75 tips overwhelms readers. Turn that sucker into an eBook with a short and sweet title.  Self-publish it. Sell it. Blogging ain’t about trying to turn the next “War and Peace” into a freaking blog post.

Set up an outline. Drill down to add heft to the post. Be thorough without going overboard.

Question Posts

Ask questions through your blog post titles.

Provide answers via your blog post. Ask probing questions readers bring to you on the regular. List a few in your back office.

Flesh out solid answers by doing a bit of research.

Question posts stimulate interest; inquiring minds dig deeper.

I base all Blogging From Paradise question posts on reader feedback. Community members who ask specific questions find a spot in my back office. I record the question pronto to begin writing that sucker.

Read top blogs from your niche. Dissect similar questions. Top pros keep their finger on the cyber pulse of your niche.

Personal Stories

Share wins.

Share losses.

Share everything in between.

Personal stories boost transparency. Readers like a blogger who lets it all hang out versus those hellbent on crafting a perfect image. Goodness knows that I err in the mistake-prone direction. I genuinely try to share my shadow, with all its big-time mistakes, along with my blogging victories.

My personal blog posts strike resonance with our community. Readers see themselves in my shoes. Perhaps you went through what I had to go through. Or maybe you feel a twinge of excitement because the guy living his dreams seems infallible, like all human beings.

Stick to my policy.

No private thoughts. No people pleasing.

Get raw if need be.

Trust your intuition to guide you on this one.

Whatever the Type

Re-read the “Westworld” lead in up top.

I scanned some helpful page 1 posts to research this topic a wee bit. But I warn you not to lock yourself in after choosing a blog post type. Create order by building a post outline but go free-form to publish content from the heart.

No one wants to follow a blogging parrot. AI bloggers in particular will eventually learn the folly of their ways. But even human-bloggers whose content sounds like AI may get the AI-smack down sooner than later. If your human-generated content sounds like AI-generated content…..you are in trouble.

Whatever the blog post type, be most concerned with solving reader problems and inspiring readers to live their dreams.

Be a good listener. Tune into problems. Hit on pain points. Provide freeing solutions.

Publish helpful content to grow your traffic and profits.

Conclusion

Alternate blog post types.

Give readers a change up here and there.

Make blogging interesting.

Enjoy the blogging ride as you cover niche-specific topics from a different angle.
