How can billions of human beings be wrong?

Social media has something going on.

Do you run a 5 billion subscriber email list?

Mark Zuckerberg does.

He gives you free access to 5 billion people. X, Pinterest, YouTube and Blue Sky amplify the billions.

Most of planet earth registered accounts for one or more of these platforms.

How do you send these people to your blog?

Valuable content migrates social media users to blogging real estate.

My practical social media updates motivate people to hop over to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com.

People want help. Folks seek guidance.

Social media gives you a platform for distributing help.

Not everyone uses Facebook to check updates from family and friends.

Treat Social Media Like Google

I frame social media to be a traffic source like Google.

I publish targeted, practical content to social sites. I hit blogging-themed hashtags.

Users looking for practical blogging tips find my updates. Some visit my blog.

Treat social media sites like Google. Content drives Google traffic. Content drives social media traffic.

No Blogging BS on Social Media

Before we dive in, beware using manipulative hacks to drive social media traffic. The algorithm sees through schemes. At best you suffer through a temporary suspension. At worst you burn through social media handles like a summer wild fire.

Follow these tips to drive traffic from social media to your blog.

1: Publish Detailed Updates

Publish thorough text-based updates to social media.

Users seeking practical information find in-depth content.

My detailed social updates tend to rank best for social search. Users really do use the search box to find solutions.

How do you rank on social?

Create detailed, practical content to solve reader problems.

I share practical blogging tips to draw folks to my blog from sites like Facebook. X and Blue Sky favor short and punchy but practical updates.

Text-based content (sans links) performs well on social sites. Publish some updates that do not send users away. The algorithm likes helpful updates that keep people parked onsite.

2: Share Blog Posts

Share blog posts consistently.

Direct social media users to your blog.

Drive direct blog traffic.

Be persistent. Social media algorithms do not favor links. Sharing posts consistently cuts through algorithmic resistance.

I drop 5-10 or more Blogging From Paradise post links daily. Peppering blog links puts eyeballs on my blog.

Some links get 10 views. Some links get 1,500 views.

Be patient.

Social media traffic flows slowly but surely to consistent self-promoters.

Tailor Posts for Social Media

Craft blog post shares for social media.

I prefer to drop 4-5 sentences setting up new blog posts. Using a bit of text boosts views.

Drop an image. People love eye candy.

Add a hashtag or two related to your blogging niche.

Packaging counts.

3: Promote Fellow Bloggers

Promote fellow bloggers on social media.

Share blog posts, text-based updates and images.

Shine the spotlight on bloggers from your niche.

Build bonds.

Gain trust.

Some blogging friends promote your content for their social media communities to amplify your reach.

I promote bloggers here and there on sites like X, Facebook and Blue Sky to share their helpful content for my readership. Bonds form. Organic co-promotion manifests.

Some social media traffic flows from communities other than your own.

Referral traffic is the big social media secret for bloggers. Most force content through their tribe. Wise bloggers promote others who amplify their reach through new, expanding, targeted tribes.

I’ll give you an example of this concept in action.

After publishing this blog post I will beam it to my email list and social media arms.

Bloggers who follow Blogging From Paradise Dot Com will promote this post to:

  • X
  • Facebook
  • Blue Sky

for *their* readers to see.

Some overlap exists. A few of their followers are my followers on social. Yet most of their followers do not fit within my current social media communities.

Picture five bloggers promoting your recent blog post to X, Facebook and Blue Sky. Consider the blog traffic potential of this referral stream over the long term. Social media traffic flows slowly but steadily; remember the 5 billion number above? Thousands of people from their tribes see your blog content through their generous promotions. Some click through to your blog to increase traffic.

Solo we do little.

Together we do amazing things.

The blogging lone wolf dies but the wolf pack thrives.

4: Drop Genuine Comments

Comment in response to updates aligned with your blogging niche.

I drop authentic comments replying to blogging tips themed updates.

Social media users interested in blogging scour these updates. Some bloggers see my comments. A percentage clicks through to my profile based on the helpful tips I shared through the comment. A few of those folks click through to Blogging From Paradise Dot Com.

Dropping helpful comments drives indirect blog traffic.

As with all social media strategies, show patience, my young Blogging Padawans.

Share one to three paragraphs per comment.

Set aside a few moments – or minutes – to comment genuinely on social media.

Make an impact.

Gain exposure.

Drive blog traffic through social media

5: Use a Multi-Channel Approach

I drive blog traffic through:

  • X/Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Pinterest
  • YouTube
  • Blue Sky

Work multiple channels to maximize social media traffic.

Learn the rules for each network. X loves short and sweet updates. Facebook favors thorough content. Pinterest adores pretty pictures. Blue Sky mimics X in most regards.

Publish videos to social media sites. Prove your humanity. Gain credibility. Be a talking head to AI-proof your blog.

I gain significant traction by publishing short-form videos to Facebook.

Broadcast live to bond with readers. Share long-form videos to flesh out content.

YouTube is the video giant. But distributing videos across all possible social channels makes sense to leverage your blog.

Share pretty pictures. People love eye candy. Social media algorithms favor images.

I infuse travel photos into my social media streams. Folks dig following my travels through these images. I think social media users live vicariously through the pics. At least most seem to feel that way according to feedback.

6: Run Social Media Groups

I run a handful of blogging tips themed groups on Facebook.

I publish practical blogging tips to each group daily to foster a sense of community.

Groups build topical authority. Facebook spotlights communities; social media users find my groups through social search with greater frequency than stumbling across my profile.

Create text-based content and videos for groups. Share blog posts. Add links to products here and there to drum up business.

Conclusion

Work a traffic source boasting over half of the world’s population.

Create value.

Become valuable.

Migrate social media users to your blog by being truly helpful.

despite my efforts,(consults Google Analytics), 70 -75 % of my traffic is from Google… less than 2% is FB referrals. somedays aint even 1%

am doing well with SEO. and obviously something wrong on Social Media,,,

    Direct traffic gets 20%

The direct traffic number is solid.

As for Google and social media, the Big G is still the prime traffic source for most bloggers. Social media traffic takes a long time to drive consistently. I find that publishing highly-detailed updates here and there migrates people from Facebook to my blog. Ditto for LinkedIn. X is more engagement-focused methinks for generating blog traffic.

Yes i need to be patient with the SM traffic…. will be hard since FB killed my last profile .. twitter seems to be working better now….. but links are noreferrer. so impossible to see the true stats…

Facebook has sent a healthy group of folks to my travel photos recently but only for two of my pages. I will double down on publishing detailed blogging tips for the next few weeks to return to the basics. Long form content on Facebook typically drives users to my blog. We will see how it shakes out.
