I recall the days when I chased blog comments.

Receiving a high volume of blog comments signaled great blogging success for me.

Anytime I registered only a few comments I felt deflated.

But it turns out that I walked on the wrong blogging track during comment worshipping days.

Turns out, most comments were spam but I secretly felt good about the number tabulating in my back office even if most appeared to be worthless. Registering a high number a spam comments proves that your blog appears to be popping up on the radar screen. Spammers show up because your blog generates exposure. But chasing vanity metrics like spam comments leads you in the wrong direction.

Stay on the Right Track

Comments do not make for a successful blogging career. Comments can foster a sense of community. Blog comments may build relationships, drive traffic and increase blogging income.

But receiving blog comments in and of itself does not indicate or even suggest long term blogging success.

I still need to guard against this temptation to walk on the wrong blogging track anytime I glance at my WordPress back office. Comments are just comments. Trying to increase comments as some alleged precursor to expanded blogging success is wasted energy.

I intend to jump from the wrong blogging track to the right blogging track today.

Hop off of the wrong blogging track.

Get on the right blogging track.

Follow this post closely if your wheel-spinning ways seem to cripple your blogging campaign.

What Is the Right Blogging Track?

Writing detailed content and establishing strong relationships puts you on the right blogging track.

Creating and connecting forms a strong foundation for your blogging campaign because each action boosts credibility and expands your exposure. Trusted bloggers seen in many spots experience blogging success over the long term.

Beware stepping off the right blogging track to chase bright, shiny objects on the wrong blogging track.

For example, chasing follower counts on social media pulls you toward the wrong blogging track because numbers cannot do anything. Follower counts cannot do anything, save the ego interpreting said counts and stroking itself. Engaged, trusting human beings who find you organically through your creations and connections grow your blogging business. But if you chase social media follower counts you lose sight of the human beings to truly help in order to thrive as a blogger.

Do not chase numbers because fellow bloggers on social media chase numbers.

Do not get caught up in statistics.

Put vanity metrics aside.

Get back on the right blogging track.

Numbers are just numbers, not human beings who buy your stuff or hire you.

Focus on helping human beings. Position yourself to succeed. Shift your focus away from chasing follower tabulations in the process.

Stop Chasing Numbers

Do not give in to the numbers temptation plaguing bloggers.

Some bloggers set and reach a goal like publishing a specific number of blog posts each day, week or month. However, publishing a particular number of blog posts without giving thought to blog post quality, depth, detail and targeting puts you on the wrong blogging track.

Imagine publishing fifteen 400 word blog posts daily. Nobody will read most of these posts because thin posts rarely draw readers to blogs. Most readers expect at least a 600-1000 word blog post to satiate their needs.

Perhaps reaching your imagined goal of writing and publishing fifteen 400 word posts daily feels good but since this approach puts you on the wrong track – pulling you away from the right track – you will fail with your strategy.

Publish quality content at a quantity clip over years. This approach pulls you to the right blogging track.

Walking on the right blogging track leads you to a professional blogging campaign.

Stumbling on the wrong blogging track leads you to struggles, failure and quitting.

What track do you choose?

Picture this Analogy

Visualize yourself traveling to a destination via rail.

Travelers need to pick the proper train route to reach the desired destination.

What happens if you pick the wrong train line? No matter how fast the train flies down the tracks you will never reach your desired destination because the train travels to the wrong location.

Either travel on the right track to reach your preferred final stop or travel on the wrong track – quickly or slowly – to reach the final stop you hadn’t planned on.

Bloggers who create and connect position themselves on the right blogging track to succeed.

Bloggers who resist creating and connecting by walking on the wrong blogging track struggle, fail and quit no matter:

  • how hard they work
  • how long they work
  • how many alleged shortcuts they take
  • how fast they work

Expect to get lost if you take the wrong way. Accelerating only gets you lost more quickly.

Other Examples of Being on the Wrong Blogging Track

Manipulating ad networks, trying to blog solo and being afraid to invest money in your domain and hosting are examples of walking on the wrong blogging track.

Attempting to finagle ad networks leads to account shut downs. Blogging solo promotes blogger burnout. Resisting an investment in a domain and hosting dissolves your blogging credibility.

Allow ad revenue to grow organically. Build your blogger network through genuine outreach. Invest in your domain and hosting to establish some credibility.
