Deciding which blogging tips to follow makes or breaks your professional blogging career.
The below tactics are strategies that every blogger needs to know.
One of the most effective ways to learn blogging is through the art of drawing analogies.
I want to help you learn blogging by creating analogies between this medium and perhaps the greatest domination of a single college basketball season by one tiny high school located in Northern New Jersey.
The ultimate domination ended with two of the high’s schools alums winning the coveted National Championship as members of the UCONN Huskies for the 2022-2023 season.
Blogging Tips and The Patrick School
Back in 1993, I played high school basketball against St. Patrick High School in the Union County Tournament. I went on to follow the program closely due to being a fan who appreciated talent along with knowing a few folks from the high school.
St. Pat’s was a relatively unknown basketball school at the time on the national scene. But budding superstar Shaheen Holloway (who received the McD’s All American game MVP over teammate Kobe Bryant) and coach Kevin Boyle helped build a program soon to be a household name on the high school hoops scene.
St. Patrick spawned NBA players:
- Al Harrington
- Sam Dalembert
- Kyrie Irving
- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
before being closed by the Archdiocese of Newark for financial reasons.
A small, tight-knit community of fully committed individuals re-opened the independent Patrick School.
Achieving this feat seemed astounding as fellow northern NJ powers St. Anthony (They Hurley Family; including Danny, who just won the NCAA D1 Title as he coach at UCONN) and Paterson Catholic (Tim Thomas, former NBA veteran who once beat out Kobe Bryant for #1 high school player in the nation) have since closed their doors.
But TPS did ’em a few more:
- TPS won the prestigious Tournament of Champions since re-opening
- TPS spawned NBA players DeAndre’ Brembry (former), Jonathan Kuminga and Nick Richards
- TPS turned out dozens of players who experienced successful college basketball careers
Most of all, The Patrick School has been arguably the most dominant high school program ever in terms of a single college basketball season in 2022-2023 for both winning and statistics.
I am listing these accomplishments to prove the blogging success tips below; The Patrick School’s influence on college hoops proves that these tips work.
I’ve followed St. Patrick – The Patrick School closely for 30 years since 1993. Look at the featured image for this post: the TPS hat I donned during my trip to Yangon is in fact a brim for The Patrick School.
For such a tiny high school with such small annual enrollment the ratio of basketball success to students is astounding if not absurd.
During the current D1 college basketball season:
- Adama Sanogo, UCONN (National Champion, Most Outstanding Player in NCAA tournament)
- Samson Johnson, UCONN (National Champion)
- Jordan Walker, UAB (ranked #5 in NCAA scoring and #3 in 3-pointers made per game, lead UAB to NIT title game and best single season record in school history, ranked #1 in NCAA scoring for most of the season until injuring himself)
- Markquis Nowell, Kansas State (Won Bob Cousy award as nation’s top point guard, ranked #2 in NCAA assists, broke NCAA tournament assist record with 19 in a single game, made multiple postseason All-American teams, lead K-State to the Elite Eight in NCAA tournament)
- Darryl Banks, St. Bonaventure (ranked #1 in NCAA for minutes played per game)
Adama Sanogo has been the best player on the best team in college basketball all year long.
Markquis Nowell made 2nd or 3rd team All American depending on the publication.
Before Markquis took the mantel, Jordan Walker was perhaps the most dominant guard in D1 basketball.
No high school ever dominated college basketball in a single season like The Patrick School.
Why?
Bloggers; pay close attention to these successful blogging tips.
1: Cultivate a Strong Desire to Succeed
TPS turned out winners and statistical dominators this year because each player possessed a deep hunger to succeed and win. Following up on that desire by practicing doggedly transmuted their desire into on court success.
Jordan and Markquis were looked over for most of their high school and early college careers. A pulsating desire fueling an insane work ethic made both NBA prospects. Adama will likely become the next Patrick School NBA player because he worked his tail off to add different dimensions to his game.
Successful bloggers possess a fire to:
- learn
- practice
- improve
in order to go pro.
You need to really want to succeed as a blogger to get through inevitable obstacles.

2: Be Willing to Learn
TPS coach Chris Chavannes drills down into basketball fundamentals to instill success in the minds of players.
Dominant TPS alums on the college scene opened their minds to learn how to become a successful basketball player.
Coach Chavannes employs a tough love approach to teaching basketball. Less willing players transfer out quickly. Winners stick around and eventually learn how to become highly successful ballers through his patient instruction.
Learn blogging tips from professionals.
Peel open your mind.
Every blogger needs to learn how to go pro before going pro because blogging involves many moving parts.
Humble yourself. Never wing it. Open your mind.
Be a willing learner to blog the right way.
Practical Tips
- learn blogging from professional bloggers
- humble yourself at the beginning of your blogging journey
- follow blogs published by top bloggers closely to remain current
3: Walk the Extra Mile
The Patrick School dominance of NCAA D1 basketball from individual and team accomplishments rests on players deciding to walk the extra mile.
Working tirelessly on all the details most ballers overlook fueled this overwhelming dominance.
In particular, perhaps the most skilled guard ever to pick up a basketball in Kyrie Irving (St. Patrick alum) pretty much out-practiced every other basketball player intelligently and strategically by focusing heavily on his footwork, finishing with his off hand and mastering the art of scoring in awkward scenarios.
He has walked the extra mile for decades to become one of the all time greats.
Successful bloggers walk the extra blogging mile.

4: Ignore Appearances
Jordan Walker attended two colleges before his career took off at UAB.
Markquis Nowell transferred to Kansas State before becoming a household name.
Adama Sanogo patiently paid his dues at UCONN before becoming one of the most dominant big men in college basketball.
Each leader did not rank high on scout lists coming out of high school. Scouts deeply doubted Jordan and Markquis for their diminutive stature. Scouting services questioned Adama’s lack of athletic ability.
None of the players cared much about the opinions of the world. All got to work to become dominant ballers and winners at the D1 level.
As a rule, the top bloggers in the world worked in private for a long time before traffic and income appeared.
How it goes; first, you practice blogging to develop skills. Nothing appears to happen during this time frame. This is why you need to ignore appearances.
Success eventually comes together but only if you ignore the world and its apparent suggestion that you are not a successful blogger.
Every blogger needs to focus heavily on the blogging process NOT the outcomes of the process.
Falling in love with creating and connecting – not traffic and profits statistics – is the way to go pro.
Practical Tips
- focus heavily on the process of creating and connecting to let go an obsession with traffic and income outcomes
5: Target Your Campaign
Adama targeted his perfect match in UCONN. Danny Hurley wanted him badly. He fit ideally into the UCONN system.
Jordan got clearer on his target after stints at Seton Hall and Tulane. UAB became the perfect program for him.
Markquis also had to get clearer on his ideal school after spending some time at Arkansas Little Rock. Kansas State became his dream school.
Each winner and stat dominator had to dial in on the perfect team, program, culture and environment to shine as leaders.
Intelligent bloggers target their campaigns effectively.
Target keywords queried by your ideal readers.

6: Follow the Right Coach for You
Danny Hurley, Jerome Tang and Andy Kennedy believed deeply in Adama, Markquis and Jordan.
Each player credits much of their success to the confidence their coaches displayed in their individual abilities.
The TPS trio leads by example in part because each followed the right coach for their temperament, skills and abilities.
Every blogger needs the right coaching to thrive.
Follow blogging mentors resonant with you.

7: Be Genuine
St. Patrick – The Patrick School has spawned a line of genuine players who influenced the game well outside of basketball.
The three current dominators in Jordan, Markquis and Adama are sociable, authentic and quite fascinating away from the court.
Adama has made headlines by remaining energized during March Madness despite fasting for Ramadan. Markquis regularly tweets law of attraction related updates to display his mind-training acumen. Jordan’s tweets reveal that he is an astute student of the game.
Ditto for trail blazers like Kyrie Irving, Derrick Gordon and Michal Kidd-Gilchrist.
Kyrie has repeatedly used his platform to challenge the matrix. Derrick was the first player to come out as gay in D1 college basketball and inspires others to be true to themselves. Michael has become a public speaker encouraging people around the world to overcome stuttering, himself conquering this obstacle.
Each hooper is far more than a hooper and genuine to the core.
Writing how you genuinely speak forms the foundation of a strong blogging community.
Strike a conversational, casual tone to bond with readers.
Blogging is different than journalism. Comparing each is trying to relate apples with oranges.
Blog followers relate to bloggers who adopt a chatty tone about their work.
Practical Tips
- write how you speak
- embody a conversational tone to disarm readers
- blog genuinely
8: Be a Team Player
Successful ballers from TPS became team players in order to become winners.
Jordan helped lead UAB to the most wins in school history by being a team player who distributed the ball when his shot was not falling. Markquis captained K State to the most wins against Top 25 teams in a single season by being the ultimate team player. Adama scored modestly to share the wealth with talented teammates all the way to becoming a National Champion.
Pro bloggers understand how blogging is a team sport.
Team players reach the top of their blogging niche via collaborations.
Wise bloggers work with versus against bloggers in their niche to amplify success for all.
Put your ego to the side. Be a team player to accelerate your blogging success.
Practical Tips
- collaborate with bloggers
- guest post
- open your blog to guest posting
- comment genuinely on blogs
- promote bloggers on your blog and through social media
9: Know When It Is Time To Let Go
Adama graduated from The Patrick School after his junior year because he fulfilled his academic requirements and knew he needed to step up to the D1 college level.
Markquis left his first college because letting go that opportunity felt necessary for his growth.
Jordan transferred twice from colleges who did not seem to fit the point guard into their plans.
Knowing when to let go non-resonant opportunities paved the way for stunningly successful basketball seasons.
Bloggers need to know when to trash failing strategies to make room for successful tactics.
