Blogging is boring sometimes.
I advise you to follow your passion.
Yet are you an ascended master? No?
Boredom and other fears will surface in your mind from time to time. Nobody eradicates these emotions from their experience until one masters their mind. Get real. Be straight with yourself.
I never like to call it a grind because force negates. Forcing things becomes counter productive. The harder you work the harder you need to work down the road. Being efficient dies. Never take this route.
But blogging feels boring for various stretches because doing simple things without much sex appeal is the way to go pro. Strike that; doing simple things without much sex appeal *for many years of your life* is the way to go pro.
Enter temporary boredom.
Overall, you will enjoy blogging. I feel like the gig seems fun most of the time.
Some of the time it will feel boring.
This is routine.
Try not to make a big deal about it.
Blogging Boredom
Wait a second.
I always tell you to follow your blogging fun. Blog your passion. Do it because you genuinely love blogging. Blog from a high energy intent.
What gives?
Life. Emotions. People experience 40,000 plus thoughts daily. Is every thought positive? Do you feel inspired 24-7, 365?
Pick a niche that feels fun to work. Enjoy creating content for a targeted reader. Stick to this process consistently.
However, life intervenes. Moods change. Blogging work is boring sometimes. I consider it to be temporary boredom more than a long term slog. Some of those X/Twitter cats with huge followings speak of business-building boredom.
I cannot lie; they ain’t entirely wrong.
Bloggers sometimes struggle because if the work feels boring then most ditch the work. Boring work feels unfulfilling. Boring work never feels sexy. Shouldn’t it feel amazing all of the time?
Let me ask you a question: Does your life feel amazing all of the time?
No it does not.
Certainly we can change our mind about the world. I am A Course in Miracles guy through and through. I practice mind training as frequently as possible.
Mind training is all about becoming highly aware of your thoughts and feelings as you go about the day. Take right now. I feel good. I enjoy writing this post. Yet earlier today I felt a bit bored with my blogging work.
Is that bad?
No.
It’s called not being an enlightened being.
Strap ’em on.
Do the work even if it feels boring.
Position yourself to succeed.
Waiting to Feel Inspired
I have seen bloggers waiting to be inspired for days, weeks or months. Sitting on the blogging sidelines for weeks or months results in failure.
But this crowd waits to feel some magical surge because the sometimes boring, ho-hum work of:
- researching blog posts
- writing blog posts
- promoting blog posts
- creating content for social media
does not tickle their pickle.
Nobody succeeds with this attitude. Doing the work is the way to succeed. Boring work is just as important as inspired work. Both help you reach the same goal.
Beware Extended Boring Work
Never take this post as an excuse to feel bored about blogging for weeks or months.
Feeling ho-hum about this gig pops a massive red flag up before your mind.
Blogging should not be a boring venture. Losing your steam long term means that it’s time to do some soul searching. Maybe you need to get clear on your intent. Perhaps you need to quit blogging.
Whatever the case, feeling good about your work is essential to do this for the long haul.
What Do I Mean by Boring Blogging?
Doing the same things daily for years on end triggers the emotion of boredom in almost all human beings.
For example, researching content for due diligence becomes boring from time to time. I love to learn like the next guy. Yet digging deep feels drone here and there because my curiosity is not boundless.
I wrote this post to let you know that it is perfectly normal to engage in boring blogging work from time to time.
I get it. You and I have been at this for a minute. There’s no sense feigning a false sense of limitless enthusiasm because that causes self-sabotage sooner than later. Everything collapses like a house of cards.
Why?
Burying how you honestly feel results in an emotional explosion.
All the fear-based stuff you pushed down eventually finds an outlet.
That’s when the meltdown happens.
Never Force the Work
Boring blogging work is plain-jane stuff. Blah, yet it feels relaxing enough to do it for a bit.
Forcing blogging work is:
- pushing
- straining
- striving
from a mindset of heavy fear, scarcity and poverty.
At that point, your work turns to crap. Quality control flies out the window.
For example, forcing out a thin, 600 word post in 10 frantic minutes before tapping the “publish” button almost certainly harms your blogging reputation. I can see the typo’s, sloppy writing and grammatically unsound post in my mind right now.
Learn to spot the difference between forcing things from panic and feeling temporarily bored about doing the same thing you’ve been doing for the prior 2-3 years……or longer.
You Need to Eventually Get the Work Done
Boring or not, you need to eventually complete specific blogging work to drive organic traffic.
Making excuses about lacking inspiration won’t save you.
Shying away from work because it feels ho-hum won’t save you.
Feeling bored for brief stretches is part of the blogging journey.
Accept this truth.
Lessen resistance.
Even the most energized, passionate blogger does boring work here and there because none have mastered their minds.
Be careful about boring work becoming grunt work though because we need to keep our credibility intact.
Remember; force negates.
Conclusion
Blogging is temporarily boring at times.
Accept this inevitable aspect of blogging.
Remove resistance from your mind.
Do the blogging work even when it feels less than inspired.
Get the job done.
