Do blog commenting and SEO go together like peanut butter and jelly?

Yes…..and no.

Blog commenting opens the door for prospering blogging collaborations.

Submitting genuine blog comments leads to guest blogging, interviews and quick features. Each prior benefit of blog commenting boosts Do Follow backlinks. Gaining high quality, Do Follow links increases Google traffic.

But blog comments do not directly influence SEO because virtually all blog comments register as No Follow backlinks. Basically, a No Follow link tells Google not to follow the link which means no search engine juice.

Should you comment genuinely on blogs?

Heck yeah.

Sticking to an authentic blog commenting campaign directly and indirectly increases blog traffic and blogging business.

Indirectly improving blog SEO is a sweet side benefit of blog commenting.

Check out how blog commenting affects – and does not affect – SEO.

Yes

Genuine, personalized blog comments establish blogging relationships.

Bloggers who bond with you through blog commenting invite you to guest post on their blogs. Do Follow links gained through guest blogging enhance your SEO because these links add credibility to your blog according to the Google algorithm.

Authentic blog comments influence bloggers to interview you and feature you via short mentions. Each interview and quick hitter link registers Do Follow backlinks pointing to your blog to boost your SEO game.

Blog comments are content. Dropping a thorough comment on a respected blog in an active, engaging comment section can put the blog on page 1 of Google. Being seen as a valuable commentor for a post that reaches page 1 and position 1 of Google for a competitive keyword drives highly targeted, heavy traffic to your comment and lesser but significant traffic to your blog. Few bloggers consider this SEO benefit from an offsite perspective.

Each direct strategy positively impacts your SEO.

This is why you should never overlook the power of genuine blog commenting for increasing Google traffic.

Of course, most bloggers shortsightedly look past commenting for being blinded by the lure of Do Follow links.

See beyond the immediate benefits of receiving Do Follow links to patiently boost your SEO through the indirect power of a genuine blog commenting campaign.

No

Blog commenting does not directly impact your SEO  because pretty much all comment links are No Follow.

As with everything Google-traffic related, the first wave of spam commenters attempting to game the system forced bloggers to make all blog comments No Follow. Spammers saw an easy way to get Do Follow links for increasing Google traffic by mass spamming a heavy volume of niche blogs. Bloggers and Google became wise to their ways; bloggers made all comments No Follow to prevent this prolific spamming strategy.

Publishing the most dazzling, jaw-dropping, eye-opening comment cannot turn a No Follow link to a Do Follow link. This is why bloggers with no vision rarely if ever comment on blogs. Visionless bloggers try to acquire as many Do Follow links now and have no time for publishing genuine comments for the No Follow nature of these links.

However, don’t make this common error because you will leave a heavy volume of targeted traffic and blogging business on the table.

Benefits of Genuine Blog Commenting

Genuine comments that I patiently published to Cori’s blog – and authentic comments Cori patiently published to Blogging From Paradise – helped us build a strong, collaborative, mutually beneficial relationship.

She has helped accelerate my blogging success in countless ways, including pushing my blogging course and spreading the word about my blog and brand in general.

Perhaps blog comments do not directly drive Google traffic but the indirect benefits of authentic blog commenting far outweigh Google traffic if you consider a large, loyal tribe of successful bloggers increasing your blogging success around the clock.

Forgetting any sweet SEO benefits associated with getting high quality, Do Follow backlinks, every link pointing back to your blog – Do Follow and No Follow – increases blog traffic and blogging business potential. Each blog comment, quick mention, interview and guest post positions you to experience greater success through a wide range of channels outside of Google.

Factor in increased Google traffic in addition to boosted traffic through various channels outside of the Big G and you see why blog commenting yields a staggering array of upsides with barely any downsides.

Blog Commenting and SEO

Think beyond today to see the sweet SEO benefits of blog commenting.

When I published a series of comments on Neil Patel’s blog I looked beyond each No Follow link to popping up on his radar screen.

Neil dropped a highly coveted backlink pointing to Blogging From Paradise via this post:

6 Figure Consultant

No Follow links from each comment did not increase my search traffic but a Do Follow backlink from one of the most respected online business blogs in the world did increase my search traffic.

Look beyond today. Stop trying to get as many Do Follow links as possible right now for increased Google traffic today.

Develop a vision for your blogging campaign. Publish detailed, long form blog posts to earn credibility. Engage in blogger outreach to build strong relationships with respected bloggers from your niche.

When your blog gains backlinks from Smart Blogger, Pro Blogger, Blogging Wizard and pro blogger Kulwant Nagi in part through genuine comments I published to these blogs you better believe that the credibility and exposure increases combined with each Do Follow backlink boosts my blogging success through a range of online channels.

Blog commenting and SEO is more about a tomorrow, next week, next month or even next year approach to Google traffic.

Most bloggers impatiently want Google traffic now and look past a genuine blog commenting campaign, to their detriment.

Guess what?

No matter how badly you want Google traffic now it ain’t coming now. Search traffic takes its sweet time because it is a study in patience, persistent authority building and gradually proving your blog to the Google algorithm as a test of time combined with an equally stout test of how much detailed, targeted value you can publish to your blog.

Conclusion

I know you’re up to the blogging challenge guys.

Publish detailed, personalized blog comments patiently.

Indirectly and directly, traffic through Google and other channels will make its way to your blog.

Love this post. Interacting with other bloggers is actually one of my favorite parts of blogging. I’ve heard that blogging can be a lonely and solitary profession, but it doesn’t have to be. The blogging world is full of wonderful people, so why not reach out and make a friend!

Ryan, thank you for your extremely informative blog posts about blogging which I read a lot! You have helped me rebuild my writing confidence and for me to stretch myself with writing longer blog articles. I had changed topics a few times trying them on for size. Now, I am writing in a niche I am quite passionate about! I am currently making contacts in the blogging community and working on becoming a support to them. Hope to make blogging friends in the future! I’m starting to follow a few blogs in my niche.

Ryan, this is such a helpful post and topic that really breaks down the ins and outs of blog commenting relating to or not – to SEO, no follow links, and backlinks. In my experience too, there are many bloggers who pursue follow links. I too look beyond no follow links!

Blog commenting should not be about follow or no follow but about what value you can add by commenting and lovingly supporting other bloggers. The results in SEO, google etc comes whenever it does it’s never a good reason in itself to write blog comment. Those who do this don’t write genuine comments and rarely read the full post.

Genuine blog commenting connects you with other bloggers. These authentic connections really can and do turn into collaborations and mutual friendships like ours did with Ryan. Always thankful for you, your friendship, and of course the value you add to the blog via posts and comments.
