This is a guest post by Gaurav Jain…

One of the sure shot ways to get organic web traffic from search engines is by creating quality backlinks. But the problem is that most new bloggers and even some experienced ones have no idea how to get quality backlinks.

Your content is definitely the heart of your website but unless you have a very large group of loyal followers, your website will never get the web traffic you dreamt about.

In this detailed guide, you will learn seven effective ways to create quality backlinks without creating any content.

Learning Points

  • How to Get Backlinks from Wikipedia?
  • How Can Your Infographics Get You Massive Backlinks?
  • How To Organize Contests To Get High Quality Backlinks Effortlessly?
  • How to Blog Comment To Get Free High Quality Backlinks?
  • How to Get .Edu and .Gov Backlinks?

#1 – Find Pre-Existing Mentions and Ask For Backlinks

If your website is not new and your articles are quality creations, chances are that someone has mentioned your site as a reference on their website. Your job is to hunt them down and ask them for a backlink. If they value your site, they will definitely agree.

How to Hunt for these Folks

Go to Moz Fresh Web Explorer and start a 30-day free trial. Use it to find all those websites that have mentioned you.

In the search operator, enter your website name. You can also search with keywords. You can mention time period to find recent mentions and export the result in Excel file format.

Contact the owner or writers of those websites through social media links displayed on the sites or through the contact form or email address mentioned under Contact Us section.

Additionally, you can use Talkwalker Alerts to get an email alert every time someone mentions your website’s name in future.

You can also use the tool to find if any particular website or group of websites is using any specific keyword(s) and set an email alert for that too.

#2 – Find Dead Wikipedia Links and Get Free High Quality Backlinks

Wikipedia is among the top websites in the world and a few high PR backlinks from Wikipedia can do wonders.

One of the trickiest ways to do so is by finding the dead links and fixing them with the relevant links from your website.

How to Find Dead Links in Wiki

Click on this link and you will land on the ‘Articles with dead external links’ page. You should try to find dead links from recent months.

In the next page, you will find all articles that have dead links. Click on those articles that belong to your niche. Do not try to put your link on irrelevant articles. Once you have landed on the Wikipedia page of a relevant article with broken links, press Ctrl + F and type dead link. This will help you find the broken links in that article.

How to Replace the Dead Link with Yours

  • Create an account on Wikipedia.
  • Log in to your account.
  • Reach the article that has dead links.
  • Click on Edit Source option.
  • Replace the dead link with that of your site’s relevant article link.
Go to the bottom of the page and find Edit Summary. Describe briefly the changes you have made and check mark ‘This Is a Minor Edit’ and click on ‘Save Changes’. Wikipedia’s moderators will update the link provided if they find your link relevant.

#3 – Organizing Contests and Giveaways

Organizing contests and giveaways for bloggers are two amazing ways to build quality backlinks.

Offer a worthy product as a prize or giveaway and set criteria for eligibility for participation.

Your aim is not to get hundreds of low quality backlinks. Your aim is to get a handful of high quality backlinks in the process. So you can set criteria like only if a certain blogger’s site has certain PageRank, Trust Flow or Alexa Rank, he or she will be eligible.

Then you can set the rules for participation like writing a blog about a certain topic mentioning you in a dofollow link.

As a matter of fact, you can get them to promote your site as well. If you think that bloggers with high PR will not participate, you are wrong. The lesser the early participation, the higher the chances of getting high PR bloggers to participate in the later stages.

The reason is they will find that the contest has less participation and hence, if they participate, they have a good chance of winning. Who doesn’t like to win without paying anything?

#4 – Quality Infographics for Quality Backlinks

Infographics can take your content from being ordinary to being masterpieces. But unfortunately, most bloggers including the experienced ones ignore it because they think it is complicated.

To get ideas about infographics, you can visit Pinterest and learn about the different innovative designs and representation of ideas.

Alternatively, you can go to Google Images and type the topic and add infographics beside itJust hire a graphic designer from one of the freelancing sites such as Fiverr and pay him a few bucks to design infographics for the epic articles you have.

You should have the name of your website at the end of the infographics. This ensures that when someone uses your infographics, they will mention the image source as your article link and you will get quality backlinks for free. There are many High DA sites that use infographics belonging to low DA websites.

To make things even better, you can embed your infographic and provide a code that others can copy and paste on their blogs to display the infographic.

#5 – Blog Commenting and High PR Do-Follow Backlinks

If you are wondering how to build backlinks fast, blog commenting is what you need.

Blog commenting can get you high PR dofollow backlinks easily. All you have to do is to find high DA websites which belong to your niche.

Then you need to find out whether their comment sections allow dofollow backlinks or nofollow backlinks.

MozBar will help you in finding that out. Install it and go to any site and it will indicate whether nofollow backlink is activated or not. If nofollow backlink is activated, you will not get any SEO value even if your website link gets published. Then you need to open any interesting article on which you have enough knowledge and you have already published a similar article on your blog.

Read the article completely and provide your views in two to three short paragraphs. Since you are targeting high quality websites, their comment form will have the field to specify your site link which will become a backlink itself.

You can take the risk of explicitly mentioning your article link and if your comment gets published, you just got free dofollow backlinks.

#6 – Blogger Outreach and Link Building

Blogger outreach refers to the act of getting in touch with fellow bloggers and asking them to provide a backlink by mentioning your blog or site’s link in one of their articles.

You may ask why a blogger will give you a backlink. This is the area where you have to plan smartly and take calculative steps. First, make sure you have mentioned the blogger’s site link in multiple articles on your site. Make a list of all those articles and take screenshots and email them to the blogger.

The blogger would understand that you deserve a backlink because you are a loyal follower of his blog and have provided so many backlinks to him without even asking.

This trick will work with most of the bloggers who care for link building and getting backlinks from relevant blogs.

But make sure that you are targeting quality blogs to get quality backlinks.

Even if your blog is not that popular, if your articles rock, you will get the required backlinks from the targeted bloggers.

#7 – Buy High Quality Backlinks – .Edu .Gov Backlinks

If you have no time to find out where to get backlinks from as mentioned in most of the steps above, buying high quality backlinks for a few bucks would be the best case for you.

There are many marketplaces like Fiverr where experienced SEO sellers are providing services through which you can get high PR and high trust flow (trustworthy links) .Edu .Gov backlinks for your website effortlessly. Make sure you buy from only those services that have good reviews.

Apart from that, there are many other blogger outreach services such as FatJoe and TheHoth to get quality backlinks by blog commenting, guest posting and other techniques from relevant websites belonging to your niche. You should definitely buy them as they help in increasing domain authority as well.

Wrapping It Up

Spend some time to get quality backlinks for your blog to excel on the search engine result pages (SERP).

Always aim for organic web traffic because it is unlimited and once it starts coming, it will literally continue to come forever.

In a nutshell, here is what you should do:

  • Find all the websites that have mentioned your site and ask them for backlinks. Similarly, you should make articles where you mention quality sites’ links and then reach out to them and ask for returning the favor.
  • Take some time out to replace the dead links on Wikipedia with yours to get multiple extremely high quality backlinks seamlessly.
  •  you should have some time reserved for writing quality comments on top-notch sites and get high quality backlinks for free. You should also buy services for getting quality backlinks from .Edu and .Gov sites.
  • Use infographics for your articles as often as you can and put embed code for others to share.
  • Organize contests occasionally for good quality websites to participate and leave you with a few quality backlinks.

Hope this answers where and how to get quality backlinks without creating new contents.

Incorporate the ways and watch your site go viral with huge organic traffic and simultaneously see an increase in page rank and domain authority.

    Hey Gaurav,
Thanks for this. It’s always seeing different perspectives on link building, blog commenting, and SEO. I’m still learning a lot. The whole approach to writing good comments seems obvious though most people don’t give much thought.

I’ve never thought about finding dead Wikipedia links. This might be one of the more interesting ways that I will take action on.

In terms of finding dead do follow back links I didn’t even realize there was MozBar. I’ll be saving this as I’m still quite new to the SEO game.

Any ideas of what I should do from the start in terms of getting started with SEO? Or even an article link would help a lot.

    Cheers, Mark

  13. Hi Susan,

Thanks so much for your first comment 🙂

    I appreciate you opening up.

I recall my first blog comment – on a blog other than my own – many years ago. Scary, nerve-wracking but also freeing too. I joined the chat. Felt fun. I also felt a deeper connection with other bloggers and readers after my first comment. I ceased being an observer alone. I joined the conversation.

Sometimes, all it takes is 1 comment to get the engagement train going.

Thanks a bunch again and do let me know how your blog commenting campaign works out for you Susan, OK?

    Hi Gaurav,

I’ve been reading Ryan’s blog for a while, but this is my first commenting. I’ve been hiding and trying to keep to myself. However, I am working on putting myself out there and networking with others.

I am starting by commenting on this blog. I am going to make it a point to take the time to comment on other blogs to see if it helps me make some blogging friends.

I’ll be sure to look at some of the other tips that you recommend. My main focus right now is to start networking more. I tend to have a difficult time doing that.

    Thanks for sharing these tips.
