How to Build an Online Empire through Blog Commenting

You can write an entire eBook about blog commenting?

Yes, yes you can.

I need to give my fiancee Kelli props. She penned the first few lines. Or at least she gave me the idea for the first few lines. To begin with, people are stunned if I tell ‘em I write 5 paragraph or longer comments. Mind boggling stuff to them.

Imagine writing an entire eBook explaining how to build an online empire through blog commenting?

I can see the steam flowing out of blogger’s ears right now.

I get it. I really do. I was once a guy with “no time to comment.”

Fast forward a few years. I decided that blog commenting was the smartest, most effective way to build friendships, expand brand awareness and grow my online empire.

After commenting persistently I:

  • Received a tweet-worthy eBook (“Blogging from Paradise: How to Retire to a Life of Island Hopping through Smart Blogging”) endorsement by New York Times Best Selling Author Chris Brogan
  • Have been invited to speak to a marketing class at prestigious NYU
  • Have received an eBook endorsement from top earning blogger Yaro Starak
  • Have island hopped from paradise to paradise, visiting places like Fiji, Bali, Phuket, Koh Lanta and Penang, Malaysia over the past 40 months
  • Have built a blog which has funded my travels and has also padded my savings
  • Have been featured on over 30 authority blogs in 12 weeks

What marketing strategy played the biggest part in my online success?

I snapped this stunning Savusavu, Fiji sunset photo from the front deck.

Why blog commenting, of course.

I run a cool blog. I use social media marketing to spread the word, to inspire folks to blog from paradise. I built an online empire through a few channels/strategies yet I needed that connecting factor to manifest success.

“What an excellent book!

What is great about Ryan is the way he continually finds highly successful strategies that most marketers don’t even think of. It’s not just theory either, he walks the talk and shows step by step how to build a wildly successful blog whilst travelling the world through blog commenting.

5 Star recommended!”

Blog commenting was the tool I used to connect with authority figures.

You share your opinion hundreds of times daily, as is…..why not eloquently share your opinion on relevant, authority blogs to build bonds with pros? Bonds which can help you blog from paradise, or from wherever you want to live.

Me on Nai Harn Beach, Phuket, Thailand.

Me on Nai Harn Beach, Phuket, Thailand.

Robert Kiyosaki says that wealthy people build networks and all other folks look for work. Wealthy, free people connect with pros. Pros inspire you, support you and expand your presence at an exponential rate.

You can imagine what Chris Brogan’s tweet endorsement did for me. It never hurts to have a guy who’s a business advisor for Google, GM, Disney, Tony Robbins, Richard Branson and Paulo Coelho tweet out your eBook.

I popped up on Chris’ radar through the comments field on his blog.

Here’s the kicker; I didn’t ask Chris Brogan to tweet endorse my eBook. He did it for me.

Neat, how sowing and reaping works, as well as the benefit of being detached from outcomes.

Blog commenting helped me land an NYU speaking gig too.

I’m speaking to an NYU marketing class via a Google Hangout in December 2014.

My good friend and NYU Professor Matthew Capella asked me to speak and has even made the monetization chapter from my first Blogging from Paradise eBook part of the class syllabus. Again, blog commenting was the glue which solidified our bond.

I’m humbled, and honored and flat out floored by these accomplishments.

Blog commenting can open a world of prospering opportunities for you.

Freedom: What You Really Want

You can talk about making money through blogging and gaining more subscribers and growing your list but in the end you only care about being free. I may teach you each practical tip that I’ve use to create an island hopping way of life through smart blogging, laying out tutorial after tutorial, and eBook after eBook, yet, a few folks will follow my advice and some won’t.

Why the difference? Why do some bloggers follow smart, proven advice from a guy living his dream, and why do some bloggers ignore good advice?

Some folks want to be free, so much, that they’ll do what it takes to bring their blog to the next level. Other folks don’t want to be free. They don’t crave living a life of freedom above all else; they’ve been conditioned to believe that they want things, like money, and homes, and cars, or perhaps they want more subscribers, or readers.

You want the invisible WHY in the visible WHAT. Money is a visible thing. The invisible WHY, or the freedom you experience by having money, is what you’re really after.

To build an online empire through blog commenting you must purify your intent. Plain and simple. Focus on being free and you’ll naturally use the quickest, easiest, least inexpensive way to connect with blogging influencers, and to land features on a gazillion blogs.

Blogging from Paradise owner and Author Ryan Biddulph secured a tweet worthy eBook endorsement from New York Times Best Selling Author and Business Genius Chris Brogan.

Blog commenting was the gateway activity which opened such prospering doors for Ryan, and that’s how we met. Simple commenting with genuine interest and passion has enabled Ryan to create opportunities for himself he otherwise would have not had. I’m writing these words from Savusavu, Fiji.

In a home with a million dollar view.

I got super clear on my blog.

I got super clear on the fact that my friends would catapult my career quicker than I could.

I got super clear on using commenting as the means to make friends.

That’s all blog commenting is: forming strong friendships with authority bloggers who inspire you, support you, promote you and endorse you.

To see all of these sweet benefits of blogging commenting you know the drill: be a friend to become a friend.

You are so right when you say that we are preconditioned to want certain things in life just because of the fact that the television and all other types of media manipulate us to have dreams that can only be bought with money. That’s how we sacrifice our happiness for the good of the market economy!

    Hey Ryan,

I heard you on Content Champion a few days back and if i’m honest I thin I have listened to that same episode 3x per day since!

    Incredibly interesting and motivating

A lot of the stuff you were talking about really struck a chord

We perform Digital Marketing and SEO, but with a PR twist. The idea being that all content, be it posts or articles should ulitmately help, but be there to build relationships.

We use blog commenting as well as a few other strategies in a method we call “The community manager” technique.

Its designed to do a few things in a number of places, but its main objective is to build relationships.

I can’t help but feel that you have done so well because of this.
Not because your attempting to “game” people, but that it seems you are empathetic to their needs and provide great content for it!

    Congrats on your success buddy

You really need to retarget with an email list -if only to bring more people your great content!

Andre Chaperon has a course out soon (4th edition?) and I think its style would suit you and your readers

As for commenting you’re a champion I see, following your shares on CC and here. Well done! All it takes is gabbing for a few minutes on each blog and the returns that you’ll see are beyond stellar. Such a high reward for a little quote unquote, risk….lol…..Thanks Daniel and see you soon!!

Super impressed with your blog, just bought your book! Like many bloggers in this niche, I had focused on sponsored posts as a year ago one could get a pretty penny if one’s page rank was decent, but after things went quiet, I pretty much stopped writing on my travel blog and focused on my personal site. B

But reading your post about how to correctly monetize a travel blog, it really sparked my attention and made me wonder what other routes one could take other than ads.

Can’t WAIT to read it! I’m only mad I didn’t see the two book combo til after I purchased one of them LOL!

Thanks so much Elizabeth! Aha….maybe I should move that one higher 😉 So happy you picked it up, and yep, these lessons were learned over time…as far as sponsored posts, etc….thanks again 🙂

      • Elizabeth

You so need to move that higher up, people will be all over that offer! 😉

Question that may be answered in the book but thought I would just ask: if a blogger is offering services, they obviously still need to get traffic. But if they are commenting on say bloggers in their niche/peer group and offering services that would match perhaps a business that needs a ghostwriter, how would that work out? Wouldn’t it be mismatched, and they would instead need to comment elsewhere?

I offer freelance writing and consulting services and mention them on my travel blog ( as well as on my business and personal sites) but hadn’t had much interest from advertising my services on my travel blog. When I do get commenting, where should I be focusing so that I get qualified traffic potentially interested in working with me?

        • Ryan Biddulph

Hi Elizabeth, Stick with your travel niche, but promote other bloggers freely, and persistently, to form stronger friendships. Once those friendships with other travel bloggers solidify, they’ll hire you or they’ll promote you to folks who need your services. Works like magic 😉 Thanks again and will do!

    Hi Ryan,

I really love the idea of Chapter 7 – Silly Mistakes – OMG… if you don’t make them you’re missing out!!!Some of the best relationship building moments came of of saying something silly.

And, there is a difference between silly and stupid. While I’m not sure how you defined it yet, I will define silly as just not being aware and yet funny while stupid is writing something you just shouldn’t have and you should have known better.

Commenting has really made a HUGE difference for me. Sharing bits and pieces of my story in the context of an article and offering a few ideas of value to both readers and bloggers can be a game changer.

It’s an opportunity to impress an influencer when you comment. Why not consistently show that influencer you know something and can communicate something valuable.

I always tell people that ask me about commenting to remember one thing; It’s not about you, it’s about value for the other readers and making the blogger look good.

If you do those two things; you are on your way!!!

I’m looking forward to reading your books soon Ryan. It’s a really crazy time of year but I’m getting there!

Enjoy some island hopping for me!

Ryan, you have personalized the whole book based on your own experience. I never felt like I was reading a book. The whole time it felt as if I was having a conversation with you in person.

The beggars in India is a good metaphor. Instead of begging our way, if we put the same level of effort in building valuable relationships, it will pay us handsomely.

I was just talking with my wife about visiting Fiji islands sometimes next year. I will surely ask for Olivia for a local tour (the banana lady :)).

Was there anything you could have done to make this book better? YES.

    1. Add pictures please. I would love to see some travel pictures and some screenshots (may be Chris Brogan’s Twitter endorsement screenshot).
    2. Justify the text instead of left aligned.
    3. If you could give an idea of how you discover these blogs in your niche, it will be helpful. A sample blog list you follow will be awesome.

After reading your book, a whole new ocean of opportunities seem to open in front of me. It’s not just bloggers who can use the power of blog commenting but also other businesses. As an author I can use blog commenting to land up even more interview opportunities (like you have done). Even a brick and mortar store can use blog commenting on local blogs to grab local clients. The possibilities are endless.

I will be obliged if I can pick your brain for my upcoming book. It’s a book on book promotion and marketing. I can have some valuable insights from you on how an author can harness the power of blog commenting.

As you say, make room for the blogging dynamo you were born to be. I heard it, I repeated it 3-4 times in my mind. I am all set now. Bring it on…

No worries. Just paste the image on MS word as it is. Align it to the center.

I will send you the Kindle format via Facebook PM.

As for the Table of Content, you can use Google Docs. Whenever I write, I always use Google Docs. You can download it as .doc or .docx and it’s Kindle ready.

Very few people know that they can directly upload a .doc file into Kindle. You needn’t change it to change it to .mobi or .pub.

    Hi Ryan,

You never stop amazing me!! Another eBooks!! MY goodness….you surely have the drive to write and keep writing, and no wonder you’ve been keeping busy too. 🙂

I loved the idea of coming up with an eBook on blog commenting, something that IS tough for many bloggers, especially the new ones who just start off and don’t know how to go about it, while there are others too who tend to get a little lazy or don’t like to visit blogs, perhaps due to their own reasons. But I know for one, and so do you and many of our friends, that there is nothing better than commenting on blogs to build relationships.

This is the one main factor that’s always worked for me, besides the social media presence – so I do know it works, provided you are consistent and committed to go all out and comment!! The chapters seem so apt and I am glad Phillip designed this cover too. Great going my friend….you’ve done it again, while I am still building my little community and tweaking the forum whenever I get a little time in hand presently, but writing an eBook is certainly on my agenda for long.

Thanks for sharing this with us, and you know me….I’d surely be spreading the word all over about your second eBook, and wish you every success with it. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

Wow just look at that! My design emblazoned with our names in Big Neon Letters. OK maybe not in Big NEON Letters this time round, but seeing my work on this Epic Page Ryan is a Humbling and Proud moment for me today.

I cannot wait to see what others think of the other latest one I slaved over a hot 52 inch monitor for hours earlier today for you will think. OK enough of me blowing my own trumpet for once.

Actually thinking about it there is one more thing Ryan. I have actually learned how to create bespoke shopping carts using PHP and MySQLi; only thing though is that the system needs and SSL Cert. It may be worth building one for Blogging From Paradise in the future hey?

That way everyone will have the choice to purchase and download from HERE, Selz and Amazon. plus it would be good SEO wise (SSL and keeping Pilgrims on the site.), plus there would be no fee to pay selling on your own site. I would be interested in what other pilgrims think of this?

Phillip stop digressing and going off on Tangents (Slap). Sorry about that. Right Blog commenting; I love this idea of building an empire. Seems so simple to me now Ryan after explaining the basics in this new Page. But writing a book on it. WOW. Eleven chapters as well! WOW WOW Dude, is that even possible? I must get this book printed off.

I will admit dude. My Blog Commenting has been lacking of recent days, and yes I know finding the time is no excuse at all but my promise to you know is that I am going to double my efforts and get me building an empire. I WILL BE Your Neighbour in Paradise after Meeting up in December 2015 in NYC (Excited now 🙂 ) for Lou’s 40th.

I liken this blogging game as building a house. Lay the Concrete Foundations by hiring a Developer/Designer like me (There I go again blowing my own trumpet, Sorry Dude. Well I did work hard cutting my teeth in this trade). Build up the bricks and morter by writing post after post. Then finally furnish and fill the house by commenting on and sharing other Bloggers post’s.

Like my little analogy dude? Feel free to use it! Epic post/page as usual Ryan. I loved it. Seeing my designs like that make me grin like a chesire cat. As always thanks dude, it’s a real please to work with you.
